Box Score 2 DENVER, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College softball team was held to two runs total in two games at Metropolitan State University of Denver Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks fell to the Roadrunners 2-1 in game one, and 9-1 in game two (five innings).
Jeovanna Rios hit her third home run of her career and third this season to give the Skyhawks their only run of the game. Rios went yard to right center in the top of the second inning for a 2-1 lead.
Metro State responded in the fifth inning with two runs on three hits for the 2-1 win.
Both teams accounted for six hits each. First baseman
Mariah Stuart led FLC with two hits.
Victoria Johnson pitched five innings and allowed two runs on six hits. She moves to 9-7 in the circle this year.
Game two ended in five innings as Metro State jumped to an 8-0 lead after two innings. Rios drove in the Skyhawks lone run of the game in the third inning after hitting a single to plate
Missy Fundora.
Metro State scored their ninth run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning to run-rule the Skyhawks, 9-1.
Junior
Kiley Raica (7-11) pitched the first 3.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits.
Olivia Goldberg closed the game, working 1.1 innings and surrendering five runs (two earned) on five hits.
"Tomorrow we need to find the fire and intensity in our team again," said Fort Lewis College head softball coach
Kira Zeiter. "When we play close games it come down to executing in pressure situations getting the job done, and we want to find that again tomorrow and get back on the winning track."
The Skyhawks (21-21, 17-13 RMAC) will face the Roadrunners (22-10, 16-7 RMAC) in games three and four of the series Sunday beginning at 11 a.m.
