Box Score 2 DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College Skyhawks bats produced 16 hits to UC-Colorado Springs 17, but the Skyhawks only produced five runs in two games as the Mountain Lions swept the home team, 6-3 and 5-2 at Aspen Field.
Both teams accounted for nine hits each in game one of the four game series. Adriana Rosthenhasuler drove in
Kaitlyn Bending in the bottom of the third inning to knot the game, 1-1. Senior catcher
Hayley Bolyard gave the Skyhawks a 2-1 lead after hitting a single to center field that scored
Myndee Thompson from second base.
The Mountain Lions plated four runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 5-2 lead.
Chelsea Rodriguez scored the third and final run for the Skyhawks in the fifth inning. UCCS added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to seal the win, 6-3.
Victoria Johnson pitched all seven innings in the circle, allowing four earned runs on nine hits and striking out six batters.
Rosthenhausler and Bending each tallied two hits each to lead the Skyhawks offense.
Rodriguez charted two hits on three at-bats and scored both runs for FLC while driving in one batter in game two of the day. She knocked out her 11
th home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 advantage. UCCS responded with three runs in the second inning. The Skyhawks second run of the game came in the fourth inning. Rodriguez started the inning out as the top batter and singled to right center. She advanced to third on
Jeovanna Rios' single up the middle and then scored when Rios was caught stealing second base.
UCCS took a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning after adding two runs.
Kiley Raica pitched a complete game, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits.
The Skyhawks, who entered the series in seventh place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings, move to 21-23 overall and 17-15 in league games. UCCS, which entered the weekend in third place, improve to 24-12 overall and 20-9 in the league.
The final home games of the regular season will be played tomorrow at 12 and 2 p.m.
