Skyhawk Softball Weekly Notes - April 23, 2014

Skyhawk Notes

The Skyhawks will play their final games of the regular season this weekend at Chadron State College.  The four game series was originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, but the series has been moved up one day as a storm is predicted to move into the area on Sunday.

The Skyhawks own an 11-7-1 all-time record against the Eagles.  FLC is 9-5-1 when playing the Eagles on their home field.  The Skyhawks are also on a four game winning streak against CSC.

The Eagles lead the league in pitching, with a team earned run average of 3.99.  In 44 games, the Eagles have allowed 163 earned runs.  Opponents have a .306 batting average against the Eagles pitching corp.

CSC's Kylee Polsley has the second best ERA in the conference.  She enters the weekend with a 3.34 ERA.  Opponents are batting .275 against Polsley, who has pitched 121.2 innings this season.  She also leads the league in strikeouts with (97) and wins (14).

Offensively, the Eagles are batting .267, the lowest in the conference.  However, they have hit the second most home runs in the league this season (47), one shy of the RMAC leader Colorado Mesa.  The Eagles also have the third fewest stolen bases in the RMAC with 16.

The Eagles' Katie Londo and Sarah Knudsen are ranked in the top 10 in the league in home runs.  Londo is third with 14 homers, while Knudsen is tied for ninth with eight.

Five Skyhawks earned 2014 RMAC All-Academic honors.  For the second year in a row, Chelsea Rodriguez was named the 2014 RMAC Softball Academic Player of the Honor.  Senior Mariah Stuart, juniors Kaitlyn Bending and Myndee Thompson, and sophomore Missy Fundora were named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll.

The Skyhawks are fifth in the league in slugging percentage (.480), sixth in home runs per game (.91) and batting average (.323), seventh in ERA (4.81) and eighth in scoring (5.52).

Fort Lewis is 14-2 when leading their opponent after the second inning, and 17-3 when leading after the third inning.  They are also 9-3 when hitting two or more home runs, and 15-3 when out-hitting their opponent.

The Skyhawks were picked seventh in the RMAC preseason coaches poll.  Senior third baseman Chelsea Rodriguez, last year's RMAC Academic Player of the Year, was also named to the RMAC preseason team.
