Box Score 2 CHADRON, Neb. – The Fort Lewis College softball team scored seven runs and hit three home runs in extra innings to earn a 12-5 win over Chadron State College in the series finale of a four game series Saturday afternoon. The Skyhawks dropped the first three games of the series, including Saturday's first game, 3-2.
Fort Lewis held a 5-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning in the series finale before the Eagles cut the lead with three runs in the fifth, 5-4. CSC knotted the game in the bottom of the seventh that sent the game into extra innings.
After a scoreless eighth inning,
Kamali'i Peneku scored on an error to give FLC a 6-5 lead in the top of the ninth. The next batter,
Missy Fundora, then hit a three run home run to boost the lead to 9-5.
Chelsea Rodriguez added a two-run home run that scored
Adriana Rosthenhausler, followed by Jeoanna Rios' home run for the seventh run of the inning. The Skyhawks held the Ealges scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to seal the win, 12-5.
Rosthenhausler went 4-for-6 with one run batted in and two runs scored.
Mariah Stuart and Rodriguez each added three hits, while Fundora, Rios and Bolyard posted two hits each.
The Skyhawks tallied 17 hits in the series finale, while holding the Eagles to nine hits.
Raica earned the win in the circle after pitching all nine innings. She surrendered five runs (four earned) on nine hits and struck out six batters.
In Saturday's opening game, the Skyhawks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but were held scoreless the remainder of the game. The Eagles notched one run each in the first, fourth and fifth innings to win their third straight game against the Skyhawks, 3-2.
Rios and Thompson each recorded a hit and drove in a run for FLC.
Victoria Johnson pitched all six innings in the circle, allowing three runs on five hits. She walked eight batters and fanned seven.
The Skyhawks finish the regular season 23-27 overall and 19-19 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. League officials will announced the 2014 RMAC Softball championship bracket tomorrow following Sunday's contests.
