Box Score DURANGO, Colo. – For the first time in program history, the Fort Lewis College lacrosse team defeated Colorado College. The Skyhawks, who were 0-6 entering today's game, defeated the Tigers 8-4 in their final regular season game Saturday afternoon at Ray Dennison Memorial Field.
Fort Lewis also recorded their ninth win of the season (9-6), marking the most wins in program history (previous win total was seven).
Saturday's contest also marked senior day for six Skyhawk seniors:
Amanda Cawker,
Abby Kvidera,
Ally Kvidera,
Jessica Norby,
Toki Prodnuk, and
Kylie Smith.
After trailing 2-0 in the opening eight minutes of play,
Jessica Norby tallied back-to-back goals to tie the game at the half, 2-2. The Skyhawks opened the second half with five straight goals by Jam Vertner (two goals),
Ally Kvidera, Norby and
Ellie Carpenter. CC added their third and fourth goals of the game in a one-minute span before
Abby Kvidera sealed the win with a goal at 9:56.
Norby tallied three goals, four shots and three shots on goal to lead the Skyhawks offensive unit. All four of Vertner's shots landed on goal.
Alyssa Spencer, who made 15 saves in goal, also led the team with four ground balls.
The Skyhawks were out-shot by two, 28-26 but picked up 26 ground balls to CC's 15.
Fort Lewis enters the inaugural Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Skyhawks will face the winner of today's match between Colorado Mesa University and Adams State as the No. 3 seed.
