Skyhawks Softball Weekly Game Notes - April 30, 2014

Skyhawk Notes

Fort Lewis College finished the 2014 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season in eighth place overall in the conference standings with a 19-19 record.  

As the eighth seed, the Skyhawks will face No. 1 seed and host school Colorado Mesa University in the opening round of the 2014 RMAC Softball Championship Tournament.  

All games will be played at Bergman Field on the campus of CMU.  The Skyhawks and Mavericks will face each other on Thursday, May 1 at 3:15 p.m.  The winner of Thursday's game will play Friday morning between the winner of Adams State and Metro State, and the loser will play Thursday night between either the Grizzlies or Roadrunners.

The Skyhawks have won three of their last 14 games and are 4-12 in the month of April.

Colorado Mesa enters the tournament 27-19 overall and 26-12 in league games.  FLC split their home series with Colorado Mesa in the first weekend of April.  

The Mavericks won have 10 of their last 12 games and are 13-9 at home the season.  Fort Lewis owns a 9-12 road record in 2014.

The Skyhawks will be facing the RMAC Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year on Thursday.  The Mavericks Makayla Kovac earned Player of the Year honors while Jessica Severinsen was named the RMAC Co-Pitcher of the Year.

Chelsea Rodriguez garnered RMAC First Team honors at third base.

Fort Lewis is fifth in the league in home runs per game (.90) and sixth in batting average (.315).  Colorado Mesa leads the league in home runs per game (1.15), slugging percentage (.558) and triples per game (.48).

FLC finished their regular season last weekend, going 1-3 at Chadron State College.  The Skyhawks earned their win in the series finale after scoring seven runs in the top of the ninth inning.

The Skyhawks were picked seventh in the RMAC preseason coaches poll.  Senior third baseman Chelsea Rodriguez, last year's RMAC Academic Player of the Year, was also named to the RMAC preseason team.
