Box Score Grand Junction, Colo. – One day after upsetting top seed Colorado Mesa University, the No. 8 seed Fort Lewis College Skyhawks posted a 5-0 win over fourth seed Metro State Friday afternoon at CMU's Bergman Field in the second round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament.
The Skyhawks grabbed a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The first batter of the game,
Missy Fundora, singled to the left side and advanced to second base after a sacrifice hit by
Adriana Rosthenhausler. With two outs and the bases loaded,
Kamali'i Peneku tripled to score
Jeovanna Rios,
Chelsea Rodriguez and Fundora.
Fort Lewis added two insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead.
Kaitlyn Bending reached first base on a single to the right side and advanced to second base on Fundora's sacrifice hit. Bending reached third base on Rosthenhausler's single and scored on a Roadrunner error. Missy Thompson drove in the final run of the game with a sacrifice hit to right field that plated Rosthenhausler.
The Skyhawks notched eight hits against Metro State, who swept the Skyhawks in a doubleheader during the regular season.
Victoria Johnson earned the five-hit, complete game shutout win for her 11
th victory of the season.
Fort Lewis will face UC-Colorado Springs in the third round this evening at 5:30 p.m.
