Lacrosse Advances to RMAC Championship Match

Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Jessica Norby found the back of the net four minutes into the semifinal match of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's lacrosse tournament to give Fort Lewis College a 1-0 lead over Colorado Mesa University.  They Skyhawks led for the remainder of the game to chart an 8-5 win over the Mavericks at Regis University Friday afternoon.

"Today was a team win," said Skyhawks head coach Kelsey MacDonald.  "Our defense came up with great stops.  We possessed the ball well on the attack and capitalized on our opportunities."

Kathryn Dunn gave the Skyhawks a 2-0 lead 36 seconds later before Tayler Landsdown put CMU on the scoreboard at 16:55.  Brooke Wineland notched her first goal of the game with five minutes left in the first half before Jam Vertner scored back-to-back goals less than a minute apart.  CMU cut the lead to 5-2 but Norby registered her second goal of the game and the game-winning goal off a free position shot with 1:51 left in the half to boost the Skyhawks lead to 6-2 at the break.

CMU netted three second half goals in between Marissa DiCecco's and Winleand's scores, but the Skyhawks held onto the win, 8-5.  The victory improves the Skyhawks to 10-6 on the year while CMU ends their season at 8-7.
