Skyhawks Notch 14 Hits in 11-10 Win

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College softball team held onto an 11-10 win Friday night over UC-Colorado Springs in the third round of the 2014 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference softball tournament.  The Skyhawks, seeded eighth in the tournament, improve to 26-27 overall and are 3-0 in the championship tournament.  The win moves the Skyhawks to the championship game Saturday afternoon at 2:15 p.m.
 
Despite committing four errors, Fort Lewis notched 14 hits against UC-Colorado Springs.  Adriana Rosthenhausler recorded a game high three hits.  Mariah Stuart, Kaitlyn Bending, Missy Fundora and Chelsea Rodriguez each added two hits.  Fundora plated three of the Skyhawks 11 runs and drove in two runs on her two hits.
 
The Skyhawks led 5-0 after two innings before the Mountain Lions knotted the game 5-5 after three complete innings.  UCCS took a 9-7 lead in the fourth inning but the Skyhawks regained the lead in the sixth inning after tallying three runs before scoring the winning run in the seventh inning and holding UCCS scoreless in the final two innings.
 
Fort Lewis earned the win in the sixth and seventh innings after scoring three runs on two hits.  With two outs and runners on second and third bases, Myndee Thompson singled that drove in Rodriguez and Fundora. Hayley Bolyard added another single that scored Thompson for the game-tying run.  Missy Fundora plated the game-winning run in the top of the seventh inning.  Fundora, who reached base on a triple, crossed home plate off of Rosthenhausler's double.
 
Victoria Johnson recorded her second win of the day and 12th win of the season after pitching the final three innings.  Johnson surrendered three hits and no runs while fanning four batters.

The win advances the Skyhawks into the championship game tomorrow at 2:15 p.m.
