Softball Narrowly Misses RMAC Title

Three Skyhawks Named to All-Tournament Team

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College softball team was two runs shy of winning the 2014 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament Saturday afternoon at CMU Bergman Field. 
 
The eighth-seeded Skyhawks entered today's championship game 3-0 through the first three rounds of the tournament.
 
Fourth seed Metro State defeated sixth seed UC-Colorado Springs Saturday morning in the elimination game to advance to the championship game with Fort Lewis.  The Roadrunners posted a 13-2 win over Fort Lewis to force an if-necessary game.  Metro State won the championship title and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA post-season after defeating FLC 2-1 in eight innings.
 
In the first championship game, Metro State plated six runs in the second inning and took a 7-0 lead after two and a half innings before Fort Lewis notched two runs in the bottom of the third. With two outs in the third inning, Chelsea Rodriguez hit a two-run shot to left field that cut MSUD's lead to 7-2.  The Roadrunners added six more runs in the fifth inning and held the Skyhawks scoreless to earn a 13-2 run-rule win in five innings.
 
Victoria Johnson started the first championship game in the circle and worked 1.1 innings, allowing five earned runs on five hits.
 
The Skyhawks posted 10 hits in the first game but stranded seven runners.  MSUD recorded 17 hits against the Skyhawks.
 
In the if-necessary game, Metro State scored one run in the first inning and held a 1-0 lead until Myndee Thompson went yard to tie the game, 1-1.  After a scoreless seventh and eighth inning for the Skyhawks, Metro State's Mary Towner hit a walk-off home run to win the game.
 
Kiley Raica pitched all 7.2 innings in the circle for Fort Lewis.  Raica held the Roadrunners to two runs on six hits while striking out two batters.
 
Adriana Rosthenhausler, Missy Fundora and Victoria Johnson were named to the 2014 RMAC Softball All-Tournament Team.
 
Rosthenhausler led the team offensively with a .650 batting average (13-of-20).  She recorded a team high 13 hits, three doubles, one triple and 18 total bases.  She posted a .900 slugging percentage and a .650 on-base percentage while crossing home plate six times and batting in one runner.
 
Four of Fundora's seven hits in the tournament were extra base hits.  She scored six runs while driving in four and rounded 14 total bases.  Fundora's slugging percentage in five games was a .737 and her on-base percentage was a .429.   She drew two walks without striking out once.
 
Johnson appeared in four of the Skyhawks five games and tallied a 3.71 earned run average while going 3-1 in the circle.  She pitched 17 innings, allowed nine earned runs on 15 hits and struck out 11 batters.
 
The Skyhawks finish their season 26-29 overall.
