Skyhawks Softball Game Day Notes - Feb. 4, 2015
The Skyhawks kick off the season in Tucson, Ariz. this year at the NFCA Division II Leadoff Classic. Fort Lewis is slated to play six games over the weekend. They will open the Classic on Friday against Southeastern Oklahoma, followed by a night game against Colorado Mesa. The Skyhawks will wrap up pool play against Missouri-St. Louis on Saturday before finishing off the weekend with three bracket games.
The Skyhawks are 0-2 all-time against Southeastern Oklahoma.Â
The Skyhawks hold an all-time record of 26-95 against the Mavericks. Fort Lewis is 2-11 on neutral sites while playing Colorado Mesa.
Saturday's game against Missouri-St. Louis will mark the first ever meeting between the two teams.
Fort Lewis College received 75 points in the 2015 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason coaches' poll to place seventh overall in the 13-team league standings.
The Skyhawks finished the 2014 season with a 26-29 overall record and 19-19 in league games. They entered the conference tournament last season as the eighth seed and played their way into the championship game before falling to MSU Denver.
The Skyhawks are returning eight out of 11 starters this season. Sophomore Adriana Rosthenhausler led the team last season with .412 batting average. Rosethenhausler was also the team leader in hits (77) and triples (4). Stolen bases leader (15) Myndee Thompson returns for her senior season. Thompson is also the returning leader for runs batted in and second in sacrifice flies.
The Skyhawks starting pitchers are also returning. Victoria Johnson led the team in wins last season and innings pitched. Kiley Raica also returns for the Skyhawks. Raica lead the team in appearances last season.Â
