Alex Herrera earned two postseason honors on Monday. Herrera was named to the 2015 Daktronics/Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-American Second Team, and to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-South Central District.
A three-time Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference (RMAC) Defensive Player of the Year and a three-time All-RMAC first team honoree, Herrera finished his senior campaign starting all 29 games and averaging a double-double with 23.7 points and 11.6 rebounds per game. He blocked a total of 94 shots (3.2 blocked shots per game) and shot at a 56.1 percent clip from the floor (230-of-410). He leads NCAA Division II in blocked shots and free throw attempts.
In 2014-15, Herrera was named the RMAC Player of the Week 10 times, earning Defensive Player of the Week six times and Offensive Player of the Week four times, including three weeks of sweeping both awards. He set Fort Lewis season records in points (687), free throws made (224), free throws attempted (333), and rebounds (335), and he had the second highest scoring average (23.7), made field goals (230), field goal attempts (410) and blocks (94) in a season.
Last week, Herrera was selected to represent the West team in the 2015 NABC Reese's Division II College All-Star Game on March 27.
