After two games on the road, the Skyhawks will play their next three on Dirks Field, beginning Wednesday against Adams State University, Friday against Colorado State-Pueblo, and Oct. 2 against Westminster College.
The Skyhawks opened the conference season at Regis (W, 2-0) and at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (W, 5-4 OT). Fort Lewis is one of three teams to start the league season 2-0 (Colorado Mines, MSU Denver).
With Friday's win over the Rangers, FLC now leads the all-time series against Regis, 33-16-5. Both teams are now tied when playing at RU, 11-11-3.
Sunday's 5-4 overtime win against the Hardrockers was their first overtime game of the season, and the first ever time they had played SDSMT.
Four Skyhawks scored their first goals of the season this past weekend.
Zac Lawrence and
Tamino Kroeger found the back of the net in a 2-0 win at Regis on Friday. Two days later,
Andres Lopez and
Sean Cleary scored their first goals of the season, while Kroeger tallied his second and third goals against the Rockers, and
Yannis Becker added his second goal of the season on a corner kick.
Freshman
Elliot Chadderton made five saves against the Rangers for his second shutout of the season. In five games between the posts, he has a 1.40 goals against average.
Wednesday's opponent, Adams State, enters the game 1-4 overall, 1-1 in RMAC games, and 1-1 on the road. The Skyhawks are 10-1 all-time against ASU and 5-1 against the Grizzlies on Dirks Field.
The Skyhawks will face the ThunderWolves for the 54th time in school history. FLC is 43-8-3 all-time against the Pack, and 25-3-1 against CSUP on Dirks Field. The ThunderWolves, who were ranked as high as No. 12 this season, enter the game with a 4-2 overall mark, a 1-1 RMAC record, and a 3-1 road record.
As a team, the Skyhawks are ranked third in the league in shots (15.17 per game), points (5.33 per game), and goals (12).
Junior
Yannis Becker is fifth in the league in shots (18) and seventh in shots per game (3.00). Junior
Tamino Kroeger is ranked fourth in the league in points per game (1.50), and third in goals (3) and goals per game (0.75). Freshman
Elliot Chadderton's 1.40 goals against average is the fifth best in the RMAC, and his .727 saves percentage is the sixth highest.
Fort Lewis returns five starters from last season: seniors
Ryan Schaul and
Zac Lawrence, juniors
Yannis Becker and
Luke Lawrence, and sophomore
Malik Badawi.
Becker, Badawi and the Lawrence brothers accounted for 62 of the Skyhawks 102 points (60.8 percent).
Goalkeeper
Ryan Schaul made 14 starts in goal last season, earning a 1.45 goals against average and notching three shutouts.
Head coach
Oige Kennedy begins his seventh year as head coach of the Skyhawks. Kennedy has led FLC to two NCAA National Championship titles (2009, 2011).
Kennedy begins the 2015 with a 90-31-7 record (.730). He is 10 wins away from meeting the century win mark for the Skyhawks.
Junior forward
Yannis Becker was selected the 2015 RMAC Men's Soccer Preseason Player of the Year. A 2014 Daktronics All-America selection, Becker was also chosen to the All-RMAC First Team, and to the NSCAA and Daktronics All-South Central First Teams. He led the league in shots and ranked second in points, goals and assists.
Junior
Luke Lawrence was also named to the 2015 RMAC preseason team. Lawrence earned NSCAA All-South Central Third Team honors and RMAC Honorable Mention accolades last season. He ranked fifth in the league in goals (nine), seventh in shots (56) and points (21), and eighth in assists (three).
As a team, the Skyhawks were voted to finish second in the league with 79 points. The Skyhawks finished the 2014 campaign with an 11-8-0 overall mark and a 9-5-0 conference record, tying them for second place in the league standings with Colorado Mines and Regis.
