FORT COLLINS – November 16, 2016 – Facing Division I opponent Colorado State University, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball nearly pulled off an upset over the Rams Wednesday night, 84-75, at Moby Arena. The game was an exhibition game for the Skyhawks but a countable game toward the Rams record who improve to 2-0 overall.
"Tonight was a good game for us," said head coach
Bob Pietrack. "We will be able to learn a lot from playing CSU. These exhibition games are extremely valuable. We look forward to the home opener on Friday."
FLC held a 31-30 lead at halftime after leading by as many as nine points in the first half. The Skyhawks led the Rams for nearly 21 minutes during the game.
CSU closed the game outscoring the Skyhawks 8-2 in the final 1:33.
Free throws were a key difference in the game as the Rams attempted 24 more free throws than the Skyhawks. FLC netted 8-of-10 from the charity stripe while CSU made 29-of-34.
The Skyhawks started the game hitting 13-of-41 field goals (.317) but came out of halftime to shoot 47.1 percent in the second half (16-of-34).
Four Skyhawks scored in double figures with
Riley Farris and
Joshua Blaylock each netting 19 points. Farris hit on 8-of-17 field goals and added five rebounds. Blaylock netted nine points from long range and finished the game making 7-of-19 from the floor.
Rasmus Bach notched a double-double after scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Bach made all six free throw attempts and dished out four rebounds.
Will Morse chipped in 10 points, five rebounds and a game high six assists.
FLC committed only six turnovers while forcing the Rams to commit 10 turnovers.
Fort Lewis will open their home season this weekend, Nov. 18-19, when they play host to Embry-Riddle and Northern New Mexico College. Both games will tip off at 7:30 p.m. at Whalen Gymnasium.
