Men’s Soccer Heads Back to UCCS for RMAC First Round

NOTES
The Fort Lewis College men's soccer team earned the No. 6 seed in the 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Soccer championship tournament.  The Skyhawks will travel to Colorado Springs to face University of Colorado Colorado Springs in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.
 
The Skyhawks finished the regular season with a 9-8-1 overall record and an 8-5-1 RMAC record.  The Mountain Lions are 11-6-1 after 18 regular season games, and 10-4-0 in the league.
 
Both teams just faced off against each other this past Friday night in Colorado Springs, with the Mountain Lions edging FLC 1-0 in overtime.
 
The Skyhawks are 5-1-0 all-time against UCCS in the RMAC tournament.
 
FLC is looking to break a two game losing streak tonight.  They are 5-4-1 in road games this season.
 
Five Fort Lewis College Skyhawks earned RMAC men's soccer post-season honors.  Salifu Jatta (South San Francisco, Calif.), Churchill Onumonu (London) and Sean Cleary (Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned Second Team All-RMAC honors.  Ty Lang (Denver) and Nicolas Perez (Quito, Ecuador) were named RMAC Honorable Mention.
 
THE SERIES
FLC is 40-10-4 all-time against UCCS and 18-4-3 against the Mountain Lions on their home field.  The Skyhawks are 2-5-0 in their last six meetings with UCCS.  The Skyhawks last win over the Mountain Lions was Sept. 26, 2014 (W, 1-0).
 
SCOUTING THE MOUNTIAN LIONS
After coming off of two home wins to wrap up the regular season, the Mountain Lions are No. 3 in the league with a 10-4-0 RMAC record (11-6-1 overall).  UCCS is 6-2-1 at home this season.  They are led by Derek Saunier who was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Year.  The Mountain Lions have the most shutouts in the league this season with 10 (also tied with Regis and Colorado Mesa University).  They have outscored their opponents 31 to 23.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The winner between FLC and UCCS will head to Colorado Mesa University to play No. 2 seed Regis at 7 p.m. on Nov. 4.
