Women’s Basketball Close Out Calendar Year with Three Games

UPCOMING GAMES
The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team will play their third road game in five days as they head to Adams State University tonight for a 5:30 p.m. game.  The Skyhawks are also in the middle of playing five games in 11 days.  After tonight's road game, FLC will return home to face Westminster College on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., followed by a non-conference game against Western New Mexico University on Monday at 5 p.m.
 
NOTES
Fort Lewis is coming off of a road split from this past weekend.  The Skyhawks fell by four points Friday night at Colorado Mesa University, before recording a 56-39 win the following night at Western State Colorado University.
 
The 39 points against the Mountaineers are the fewest points the Skyhawks have allowed since Jan. 12, 2013 vs. Western New Mexico (37 points).

The Skyhawks defense held the Mountaineers to a 21.8 percent field goal shooting mark, including a game low 8.3 percent in the second quarter.  FLC held WSCU scoreless in the second quarter for the first 9:26 before the Mountaineers hit a three-pointer with 34 seconds left in the half.
 
Briana Clay and Kayla Herrera led the Skyhawks offensively on the weekend, scoring 23 points each.  Hererra was two rebounds shy of averaging a double-double.
 
Defensively, the Skyhawks blocked 17 shots, 11 of which came from Natalie Stilwell.  Stilwell and Ande Lampert combined to block nine shots against the Mountaineers.  Together, the duo have blocked 27 shots on the season.
 
FLC leads the conference in blocked shots per game (5.1) and defensive rebounds per game (34), which are the second most in NCAA Division II this season.  The Skyhawks also have a league best field goal percentage defense (31.5 percent) and three-point field goal defense (23.8 percent), as well as the fewest fouls per game (15.6).
 
Clah owns a team high 30 assists and has the second best assist turnover ratio on the team with a 1.03, just behind Herrera's 1.26 mark.  Clah also leads the team at the free throw line in made free throws (41), attempted free throws (47) and free throw percentage (87.2).
 
Alyssa Yocky leads the Skyhawks on the boards with 62 rebounds this season (7.8 rebounds per game).
 
SCOUTING THE GRIZZLIES
Adams State University enters tonight's game with a 1-6 overall record and a 0-4 RMAC record.  The Grizzlies have lost four straight games and are 0-2 at Plachy Hall this season.  ASU is averaging 49.1 points per game and are being outscored by 12.3 points per game.  Their lone win of the season came Nov. 16 against Northern New Mexico College.
 
Leading the Grizzlies are Cydney McHenry with 9.0 points per game and Lejla Hadzialijagic with 4.0 rebounds per game.
 
SCOUTING THE GRIFFINS
Westminster College is currently tied with the Skyhawks for seventh place in the league standings with a 2-2 record (4-4 overall).  The Griffins are averaging 60.6 points per game but allowing 63.5 per game.  WC leads the league at the charity stripe with a 75 percent mark.
 
Sydnee Taylor boasts a 13.0 points per game average to go with 3.8 rebounds per game.  Denise Gonzales is second on the team in scoring with 9.4 points and a team high 19 steals.
 
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
The Skyhawks and Mustangs will square off against each other for the second time this season.  FLC won the first meeting on Nov. 14, 72-54, at WNMU.
 
Western New Mexico is 4-6 on the season and 0-4 in the Lone Star Conference and are currently on a five game losing streak.
 
Jordan Gutierrez leads three Mustangs in double figures with 17.2 points per game.  As a team, WNMU is being outscored by nearly 10 points per game.
 
UP NEXT
After tonight's game at ASU, FLC will close out the calendar year with two home games against Westminster College on Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m., and a non-conference game against Western New Mexico University on Monday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m.
