The Fort Lewis College women's basketball team clinched a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament after posting two road wins this past weekend against New Mexico Highlands University (W, 70-53) and Western New Mexico Highlands University (W, 73-62).
The Skyhawks clinched the No. 8 seed and will play at No. 1 seed Colorado School of Mines Tuesday, March 1 in the RMAC quarterfinal round. Both teams will be squaring off against each other for the third time this season. The Orediggers won the first two regular season meetings.
FLC will play their final game of the regular season on Friday at home against Adams State University. The Skyhawks won the first contest against the Grizzlies, 106-65, in the RMAC opener on Dec. 5.
FLC enters the weekend with a 16-10 overall record and a 12-9 RMAC record. The Skyhawks, who have won four of their past six games at home, own an 8-4 record at Whalen Gymnasium.
The Skyhawks will recognize their five seniors immediately following Friday's game: Michelle Turner, Simone Ruedin, Kate Bayes, Kylie Santos and Mary Rambo.
FLC ranks in the top three in the league in several categories, including free throws made (first, 367), free throw percentage (second, 73.0 percent), scoring offense (second, 71.7 points per game), assist/turnover ratio (third, 0.99), and turnover margin (third, 3.27).
The Skyhawks have recorded their 14th straight winning season (2002-03).
