Women’s Basketball Upsets RMAC Champions, 79-63

Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – March 1, 2016 – The eighth seed Fort Lewis College women's basketball team posted a 79-63 Tuesday night at Colorado School of Mines in the quarterfinal round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.  The Orediggers were the No. 1 seed after winning the 2016 RMAC regular season.
 
Fort Lewis jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game but Colorado Mines rallied back to knot the game at 15-15 in the first quarter.  FLC trailed by two points after the first 10 minutes, 25-23, but held the Orediggers to only eight points in the second quarter to take a 39-33 lead at halftime.
 
The Skyhawks held CSM to a 22.2 field goal shooting mark in the second half and a 28.9 percentage for the game (22-of-76).  On the flip side, FLC netted 46.7 percent from the floor (28-of-60), including 50 percent in the first half. 
 
Junior guard Astrea Reed, who was named to the All-RMAC Second Team earlier today, scored a career high 24 points after making 9-of-14 field goals and 5-of-6 from the free throw line, while tallying a game high five assists.  Kate Bayes added 21 points, 12 of which came from long range.  Bayes was one rebound shy of a double-double (nine rebounds).  She added two assists, two steals and one block.
 
Dallas Dickerson, who was also named to the All-RMAC Second Team today, came off the bench to score 14 points.  She added three assists, three steals and three rebounds.
 
Fort Lewis became the second school in RMAC women's basketball tournament history to upset the No. 1 seed in the first round. The Skyhawks will now travel to No. 2 seed Colorado State University-Pueblo for the semifinal round.  FLC will face off against fifth seed UCCS at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at Massari Arena.  The Mountain Lions defeated fourth seed Regis University tonight, 71-68.
