DURANGO, Colo. – May 4, 2016 – For the third straight year, the Fort Lewis College women's lacrosse team will be competing in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship tournament. The Skyhawks are the fourth seed this year with a 4-3 conference record (8-5 overall).
Top seed Lindenwood University (13-2, 7-0 RMAC) is hosting the conference tournament May 6-7 in St. Charles, Mo. FLC will face the Lions on Friday in the semifinal game at 1 p.m. (MDT). LU is currently ranked No. 4 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll.
FLC enters the tournament with seven all-conference players:
Ellie Carpenter,
Katlyne Duffey,
Jam Vertner,
Megan Longtain,
Natalie Mitchell,
Sara McMahon and
Alyssa Spencer. The Skyhawks are third in the league in goals against average (8.00) fourth in caused turnovers per game (9.77), fifth in points per game (16.92) and shots per game (28.31), and seventh in draw controls (11.31).
LU leads the all-time series against Fort Lewis, 7-0. The Lions are led by RMAC Midfielder of the Year, Jordyn Constance, RMAC Defensive Player of the Year, Erin Abbott, and RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year, Rachel Ortell.
The first semifinal game on Friday will feature #2 seed Regis University and #3 seed Colorado Mesa University at 10 a.m. (MDT). The championship game will be played on Saturday at 12 p.m. (MDT).
This is the third straight year of the RMAC women's lacrosse championship tournament. The Skyhawks are 1-2 in the conference tournament. FLC defeated Colorado Mesa University in their first ever RMAC playoff game in 2014, before falling to Regis University in the 2014 championship game and the 2015 RMAC semifinal game.
