THIS WEEK
Fort Lewis College will travel to Texas to play at No. 7 St. Edward's University on Friday at 12 p.m., and at St. Mary's University at 12 p.m. Due to poor field conditions, Friday's game has been moved to Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas and will be played an hour earlier (12 p.m. MT). This weekend's trip will mark the Skyhawks second and third straight games on the road. Friday's game is the second time in one week FLC will have played a top-10 team.
THE SERIES
The Skyhawks are 7-3-2 all-time against St. Edward's University, and 1-1-1 when playing at SEU. The last time FLC defeated the Hilltoppers on their field was Oct. 2, 2005 (W, 2-1).
FLC has won four of five meetings against St. Mary's University. Sunday's meeting will be the first time the Skyhawks have played at SMU.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
SEU jumped up from No. 15 in the NSCAA pre-season poll to No. 7 this week. The Hilltoppers charted two 2-0 road wins against RMAC opponents MSU Denver and then-ranked No. 6 Colorado Mines. Three Hilltoppers led the offense with one goal and one assist each. Defending the goal is Kevin Leib who has made three saves and knocked out two shutouts to start the season. SEU has won four straight Heartland Conference titles.
SCOUTING THE RATTLERS
SMU is 1-0-0 this season after earning a 3-0 win last week at Oklahoma Baptist University. The Rattlers will play host to Colorado Mesa on Friday before hosting the Skyhawks on Sunday. SMU finished last season 8-9-0 overall and 4-4-0 in the Heartland Conference. The Rattlers return six starters from last year's squad.
NOTES
Two freshman scored their first collegiate goals in the season opener.
Thomas de Faria and
Churchill Onumonu found the back of the net against Midwestern State. Senior
Tamino Kroeger leads the Skyhawks in offense with three points (one goal, one assist).
LAST TIME OUT
The Skyhawks opened their season at home on Friday against then-ranked No. 7 Midwestern State University. FLC dropped the home opener, 3-2.
On Sunday, FLC played their first road game and faced Colorado Mesa University in non-conference match.
Tamino Kroeger scored his first goal of the season but the Mavericks responded to score five straight goals while handing FLC a 5-1 loss at Walker Field.
