THIS WEEK
The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team will head back to Texas to play their second and third games of the season in the LoneStar State.  FLC will play a night game at Angelo State University on Friday on the same field the Skyhawks ended their 2015 season in the NCAA First Round (T, 0-0 vs. St. Edward's University).

On Sunday, FLC will travel to Wichita Falls to face off against the Mustangs at 11:30 a.m.  The Mustangs are coached by former FLC women's soccer coach Damian Clarke.

THE SERIES
Angelo State University leads the all-time series against FLC, 4-3-4.  The Skyhawks are 2-1-2 when playing ASU on their home field.  The Skyhawks last win against the Rambelles was Sept. 13, 2013 (W, 1-0, 2OT).  Five of the Skyhawks games against ASU have gone to double overtime.

FLC holds a slight 4-3-2 edge over Midwestern State University.   FLC is 2-1-0 against the Mustangs on MSU's field, including a 1-0 season opening win last year.

SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES
The Rambelles are 2-0 to start the season.  ASU defeated UCCS on the road, 3-1, and Adams State University, 2-0 in a neutral site match.  Friday's game will be the Rambelles first of the season. Angelo State is led by All-American Haley Mendel.  Mendel is the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Year and was tabbed the LSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.  Teammate Demi Tsambasis has scored four of ASU's goals this season.  She leads the conference in points (eight), goals (four), shots (11) and game-winning goals (two).  ASU is coming off of their second LoneStar Conference championship.  ASU bowed out of the conference tournament in the semifinal round.  The top seed in the South Central Region in 2015, ASU lost to St. Edward's University in the NCAA Second Round.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
Sunday's match against the Mustangs will be MSU's first home game of the season.  The Mustangs (0-1-2) opened the season at Regis University (T, 2-2), at CSU-Pueblo (L, 2-0), and at New Mexico Highlands (T, 0-0).  Goalkeeper Courtney Burnette, a 2015 LSC Honorable Mention selection, was voted the LSC Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year.  Burnette has allowed four goals and owns a 1.16 goals against average through the Mustangs first three games.  MSU was picked to finish fifth in the LSC this season after finishing last season fifth with a 3-5-2 LSC record (8-7-3 overall).

LAST TIME OUT
The Skyhawks season opener resulted in a 1-0 loss at Lubbock Christian University last Saturday.  The Skyhawks rebounded to defeat Eastern New Mexico University on the road on Monday, 2-0.  Shayla Malecki scored both goals for FLC.

2015 WRAPUP
The Skyhawks finished the 2015 season with a double overtime 0-0 tie against St. Edward's University in San Angelo, Texas in the NCAA Women's Soccer South Central Region First Round game.  SEU advanced to the second round on penalty kicks.  Last year's NCAA tournament berth was the sixth time in program history FLC competed in the NCAA post-season.

MEET THE TEAM
FLC returns eight starters from last year's NCAA qualifying team (Alicia Sanchez, Shayla Malecki, Courtney Riley, Carolyn Archer, Haleigh Macomb, Keisha Green, Andra Thaden and Dayli Schmieder).  Starters Brooke Milliet, Jordan Hix and Caitlyn Espinosa are not returning after graduating last year.

PRESEAON HONORS
After finishing second overall in the 2015 regular season standings, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team is picked to finish second in the 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Skyhawks earned 128 points behind the league favorite Colorado School of Mines.  FLC also received votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll.  The Skyhawks finished the 2015 season second in the league with an 8-2-1 league record (12-5-4).

PROVEN COACH
Head coach Jimmy Hall is in his third year leading the Skyhawks women's soccer program.  In only his second year as head coach, Hall was named the RMAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year.  In three years, Hall has notched an overall record of 18-13-9 and a league mark of 15-7-5.  Hall returned to his alma mater as assistant women's soccer coach in 2011 and is in his sixth year with the women's program. The former Skyhawk soccer standout has deep roots in the Durango soccer community and coaching experience at the collegiate, high school and club levels.

ON THE AIR
The legendary voice of the Skyhawks, John Mahoney, returns for his 12th season calling Skyhawks soccer games on the air.  Mahoney will be reunited with Phil Duke who is returning after a seven year hiatus.  Mahoney and Duke will call all Skyhawks men's and women's soccer home games.  Fans can watch all home soccer games for free on Stretch Internet and listen to Mahoney and Duke via the free video stream and on the air at KIUP AM 930, 97.3 FM and www.radiodurango.com.
