Orediggers Complete Sweep of Skyhawks

GOLDEN, Colo. – February 27, 2017 – After losing both games on Sunday at Colorado School of Mines, the Fort Lewis College softball team fell twice to the Orediggers on Monday at the CSM Softball Field in Golden, Colo.  FLC lost game one on Monday, 10-3, and were run-ruled in game two in five innings, 11-3.
 
The Skyhawks drop to 1-12 overall and 0-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
In game three of the series, the Skyhawks went down 3-0 after three innings but tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fourth inning.  With the bases loaded and no outs, Allison Young scored the first run of the game for FLC on a wild pitch.  Four batters later and bases loaded, Lauren Caldwell drew a walk that scored Cassie SloanAdriana Rosthenhausler scored an unearned run on a fielding error to close out the inning.
 
CSM added one run in the fourth and fifth innings and sealed the win with five runs in the sixth inning.
 
Madison Stanich was the pitcher of record for the Skyhawks, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits.
 
FLC was held to three hits in the opening game.  Gianna Melaragno, Young and Sloan each accounted for one hit.
 
In the series final, the Orediggers exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning to take an 11-3 lead and the win.
 
FLC was the first to get runs on the scoreboard when they plated two in the first inning.  Angelique Elemen hit a single to right field that scored Melaragno.  Elemen advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on Caldwell's single up the middle.
 
CSM tied the game in the bottom of the first inning, 2-2.
 
FLC regained the lead in the fourth inning, 3-2, after Rosthenhausler hit a triple down the right field line that scored Kassidy Buis.
 
Kelly Decker pitched the first 3.1 innings for the Skyhawks, allowing eight runs on five hits and fanning two batters.
 
The Skyhawks notched seven hits.  Elemen led FLC with two hits on two at-bats, one run batted in and one run scored.
 
The Skyhawks will return to the Front Range March 4-5 at Colorado Christian University for a four game conference series.
