Softball Records First RMAC Win of the Season, 9-2

AZTEC, N.M. – March 18, 2017 – Kelly Decker pitched a complete game and the Skyhawks offense hit four home runs as the Fort Lewis College softball team recorded their first win of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference season.  The Skyhawks defeated Regis University, 9-2, in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at the Aztec Tiger Sports Complex in Aztec, N.M.
 
The Skyhawks (2-21, 1-13 RMAC) lost the series opener, 2-1.
 
In the nightcap game, Gianna Melaragno hit a sacrifice fly to score Adrianna Rosthenhausler for the first run of game for FLC, tying the score at 1-1 in the first inning.
 
With two outs in the second inning, Mandy Owens hit a two run homerun that scored Tristen Gilbert.  With the bases loaded Lauren Caldwell, singled to left field to drive home Melaragno and Allison Young, giving FLC a 5-1 lead after three innings. 
 
Tristen Gilbert added a home run in the fourth, extending FLC's lead to 6-1.
 
FLC notched two homeruns in the sixth inning as they scored three runs on three hits.  Owens hit her second dinger of the game to score two runs, followed by Rosthenhausler's single home run for the final 9-2 score.
 
Decker held the Rangers to seven hits and fanned four batters. 
 
Owens finished with two hits on three at-bats, four runs batted in and two runs scored.  Gilbert added two runs on two hits and one run batted in.  Rosthenhausler drove in one run and scored twice on one hit.
 
In the series opener, Melaragno hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to prevent the shutout.
 
Regis scored two runs on four hits.  RU crossed home plate in the top of the sixth inning and again in the seventh inning. 
 
Young accounted for two of the Skyhawks four hits against the Rangers in game one.
 
Both teams will square off again on Sunday at Aztec Tiger Sports Complex.  Doubleheader action begins at 11 a.m.
