Softball Wins Series Finale at ASU, 11-6

ALAMOSA, Colo. – March 26, 2017 – Seven runs in the fifth inning propelled the Fort Lewis College softball team to an 11-6 win at Adams State University Sunday afternoon in the series finale.  The Skyhawks 12 hits are the second most hits in a game this season as they improve to 4-25 overall and 3-17 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. 
 
FLC lost the first game of today's doubleheader, 7-6.
 
In the final game of the four-game weekend series, the Skyhawks scored four runs in the third inning.  Angelique Elemen's single to right field scored Adriana Rosthenhausler and Kellsi PetersonTehenia Telliano added two runs with her first home run of the season to give FLC a 4-0 lead. 
 
Leading 4-2 going into the fifth inning, the Skyhawks exploded for seven runs on five hits and five errors by the Grizzlies.  Rosthenhausler started the inning off with a single to right field.  Allison Young then singled to left field and advanced to third base on a fielding error, resulting in Rosthenhausler to score.  Elemen drew a walk to reach base and Telliano singled to second base and advanced to second on a fielding error with Young scoring a run.  Lauren Caldwell added a run batted in off a single that scored Elemen.  Tristen Gilbert reached base on a throwing error that scored Cassie Sloan, who was pinch running for Telliano.  Mandy Owens laid down a bunt but reached first base safely on a throwing error and then advanced to second on the error resulting in Robyn Hall to score.  Kassidy Buis batted in Tristen Gilbert right before Mandy Owens stole home for the seventh run of the inning.
 
ASU added four runs in the fifth inning but both teams were scoreless in the final two innings.
 
Telliano went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in and one run scored.  Caldwell went 3-for-3 with a run batted in, and Elemen added two runs batted in and two runs scored on one hit.
 
Kelley Decker earned the win after working the first 4.1 innings.  She allowed six runs on four hits and fanned two batters.
 
In Sunday's opening game, the Skyhawks led the Grizzlies 4-2 after three innings.  The Grizzlies tied the game at 6-6 in the sixth inning, eventually sending the game into extra innings. 
 
In the eighth inning, Peterson tripled to right center and was brought home on Telliano's single to give FLC a 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning.  ASU sealed the win with a double that scored two runs for the 8-7 win.
 
Gianna Melaragno, Elemen and Tristen Gilbert each hit a double against the Grizzlies. 
 
FLC tallied 11 hits against ASU.  Gilbert led FLC with two hits, two runs batted in and a run scored.
 
Madison Stanich pitched the first six innings in the circle, allowing three earned runs on six hits and fanning two batters.
 
Fort Lewis will play host to Colorado Mesa University April 1-2 in Aztec, N.M.
