Softball Holds off Mountain Lions for 10-7 Win

AZTEC, N.M. – April 14, 2017 – Sophomore Angelique Elemen went 3-for-3 at the plate in game two with four runs batted in and two runs scored to lead the Fort Lewis College softball team to a 10-7 win Friday afternoon in game two of a doubleheader against University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
 
The Skyhawks lost the series opener in five innings, 12-0.
 
With Friday's split, the Skyhawks move to 6-33 overall and 5-25 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. 
 
UCCS started game two with four runs in the first inning but Elemen cut the lead down to 4-2 with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning.
 
Trailing 5-3 in the third inning, Tristen Gilbert hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Kellsi PetersonTehenia Telliano tied the game at 5-5 with a single down the right field line to score Elemen.
 
FLC's first lead of the day came in the fourth inning. With two outs and two runners on base, Elemen hit a single to left field that plated Gianna Melaragno and Adriana Rosthenhausler.
 
The Mountain Lions tied the game in the fifth inning but FLC responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to seal the win, 10-7.  Mandy Owens batted in pinch runner Robyn Hall before Peterson hit a triple to right field that brought in Owens and Telliano.
 
Madison Stanich earned the win in the circle after pitching her third complete game of the season.  She surrendered seven hits and fanned seven batters.
 
The Skyhawks recorded 15 hits in the game, five of which were extra base hits.
 
Fort Lewis was held to five hits in the series opener while UCCS scored 12 runs on 17 hits.
 
Both teams will square off again tomorrow morning at Aztec Tiger Sports Complex.  First pitch of the doubleheader goes out at 11 a.m.
