AZTEC, N.M. – April 15, 2017 – The Fort Lewis College softball team suffered two losses Saturday afternoon against University of Colorado Colorado Springs at Aztec Tiger Sports Complex in Aztec, N.M. FLC lost game one of the doubleheader, 8-5, and game two, 5-4.
After the four game series with UCCS, the Skyhawks move to 6-35 overall and 5-27 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Mountain Lions, who won three of the four games, improve to 12-25 overall and 11-21 in league games.
The Skyhawks started game one on Saturday with a 7-0 deficit heading into the fifth inning.
Tehenia Telliano prevented the shutout with a homerun to lead off the inning.
Adriana Rosthenhausler hit a sacrifice fly to bring home
Mandy Owens for the second run of the inning.
FLC plated two more runs in the sixth inning. With two outs and runners on second and third base, pinch runner
Robyn Hall scored on a wild pitch. Telliano added a run batted in with a single up the middle to score
Angelique Elemen.
Telliano finished the game with two hits, two runs batted in and a run scored.
Kelly Decker pitched the first four innings in the circle, allowing seven runs on six hits.
Megan Redd closed out the game in the final three innings, surrendering only one run on five hits.
In the series finale, the Skyhawks held a 3-0 lead in the first four innings. Elemen gave FLC a 1-0 lead in the first inning with her team-leading 12
th homerun of the season.
With the bases loaded in the fourth inning, Rosthenhausler hit a double that scored Owens and
Allison Young.
UCCS responded in the fifth inning to score five runs on four hits. Four of the five runs came from two homeruns as UCCS took a 5-3 lead.
FLC came within one run of tying the Mountain Lions in the seventh inning. With one out and the bases loaded, Telliano hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in
Cassie Sloan for FLC's final run of the game.
Olivia Goldberg pitched her third complete game of the season after allowing five runs on eight hits.
Fort Lewis will play their last regular season road games April 22-23 at Colorado State-Pueblo.
