Seventh Inning Rally Falls Short for Skyhawks

PUEBLO, Colo. – April 22, 2017 – Down five runs entering the seventh inning, the Fort Lewis College softball team rallied in the final inning for four runs at Colorado State University-Pueblo, but the Skyhawks fell short, 11-10.  The ThunderWolves swept Saturday's doubleheader after taking game one, 11-4.

With one out in the seventh inning of game two, Lauren Caldwell hit a double to reach base.  Tehenia Telliano followed with a single to move Caldwell to third base.  After Catie McKinney pinch ran for Telliano, Mandy Owens hit a single that brought in Caldwell.  After a pitching change for CSUP, Robyn Hall loaded the bases with a single up the middle.  Adriana Rosthenhausler doubled to left center that scored Owens and McKinney, followed by Gianna Melaragno's single to left field that brought home Hall.  With the bases loaded, Angelique Elemen reached base on a fielder's choice when the Pack threw out Rosthenhausler at home.  A strikeout ended the inning and the Skyhawks rally, 11-10.

Rosthenhausler finished the game going 4-for-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored.

Elemen recorded her second home run of the day and her 14th of the season.  Elemen and Owens each went 2-for-4 at the plate and each scored a run with Elemen adding three runs batted in.  The Skyhawks finished with 15 hits, six of which were extra base hits (five doubles).

In the series opener, which was delayed two hours due to heavy rains overnight, the Skyhawks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after Elemen and Tristen Gilbert drove in Rosthenhausler and Melaragno.

Elemen tied the game at 3-3 in the third inning with her first home run of the day.

FLC took a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning  on Telliano's double that scored Gilbert, but CSUP responded with four runs in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the win, 11-4.

Elemen recorded two runs batted in and a run scored off of three hits.  Rosthenhasuler tallied two hits and a run scored as FLC posted nine hits in the game.

The Skyhawks will play their final road games of the season on Sunday.  Doubleheader action begins at 11 a.m.
