Girls Gone Golfing Makes Donation to FLC Women’s Golf Program

DURANGO, Colo. – June 8, 2017 – For the third consecutive year, the Durango Chamber of Commerce has made a donation to support the Fort Lewis College women's golf program through their Girls Gone Golfing event.  This year's event raised more than $1,400 that the Chamber donated to FLC.

"We are 'over the moon proud' to be able to donate this money to the women's golf team," said Chamber Manager Rita Simon, who coordinates the event.  "Our Girls Gone Golfing event, now in its 11th year, is all about getting women on the golf course to do business and network similar to their male counterparts.  Golf can be a rather intimidating sport, so our goal is to give the ladies an opportunity of come to the golf course, learn about the game and just have fun.   The women attendees are more than eager to donate money to help these female student athletes become successful in their FLC golf careers. I am very proud to be part of this event, proud of the women who contributed and proud of the FLC Women's golf team."

This year's event was sold out with 100 golfers participating.

"We are very fortunate to have the support of all the business women in Durango and their respective organizations," said FLC head golf coach Guy Begay. "To have them come out and raise some money for the women's golf team is wonderful for our growing program. We are thankful and we will represent Durango as best we can as a golf team in the future. We want to send a special thank you to Rita Simon and the Durango Chamber of Commerce who organizes the Girls Gone Golfing event."

This year's donation of $1,422 is the most raised by the Girls Gone Golfing event for the women's golf program.

The annual golf event, held June 2 at Hillcrest Golf Club, raised funds through various games played throughout the day.  One of the highlights of the 9-hole scramble included FLC coaches that were strategically placed on holes 5, 10 and 12 and for a donation, they would hit a drive for the ladies.

The Durango Chamber of Commerce hosts Girls Gone Golfing the first Friday of June each year.  To find out more information about this event or other Chamber events visit www.durangobusiness.org or call 970-247-0312.
