Men’s Basketball Faces Eagles for Nike N7 Game Wednesday and University of Southwest Friday

DURANGO, Colo. – After two games on the road, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team will play their home openers this Wednesday against Northern New Mexico at 7:30 p.m., which will also be part of the Nike N7 games presented by Sean McCabe, CPA. Then against the University of the Southwest Friday, also at 7:30 p.m.

FLC (1-1) is coming off a weekend split against Eastern New Mexico and Western New Mexico. Keven Biggs went for 20 points to lead the Skyhawks to an 82-74 win over the Greyhounds. Riley Farris added 19 points, Marquel Beasley with 15 and Alex Semadeni chipped in 13. The next day, Western New Mexico held off a charge by the Skyhawks in the second half for the 74-70 win. Farris went for 18 points, while Beasley had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Semadeni just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

So far after two games, FLC is averaging 76 points and allowing 74, they have converted 47-111 (42) from the field and 19-41 (46) from three. Farris leads the team averaging 18.5 points, while pulling down six rebounds a game. Beasley is right behind with 15.5 points per game and is tied for the team lead in rebounds at seven per game with Otas Iyekekpolor. Semadeni (11.5) and Biggs (10.5) also average in double-figures.

FLC ranks in the top-five in the RMAC in several categories including fourth in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.03), second in the RMAC and 53rd nationally in assists per game (16.5), second in the RMAC and 53rd nationally in defensive rebounds per game (30), fourth in fewest fouls (37), fourth in the RMAC and 61st nationally in free throws made (39), fifth in the RMAC and 82nd nationally in offensive rebounds per game (12.50), fourth in personal fouls per game (18.5), second in the RMAC and 52nd nationally in rebound margin (5.5), fourth in scoring defense (74), third in scoring margin (2.0), first in the RMAC and third nationally in three point field goal defense (19.4), second in the RMAC and 71st nationally in three point field goals per game (9.5), second in the RMAC and 26th nationally in three point field goal percentage (46.3), third in the RMAC and 77th nationally in total three point field goals made (19), third in the RMAC and 67th nationally in total assists (33), fifth in the RMAC and 72nd nationally in total rebounds (85), fourth in the RMAC and 49th nationally in total rebounds per game (42.50), fourth in turnovers forced (13) and second in the RMAC and 94th nationally in win-loss percentage (50).

Individually, Michael Ranson is fourth in the RMAC in three point field goal attempts (14), fifth in three point field goals per game (2.50) and sixth in total three point field goals made (5). Semadeni is second in the RMAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.67), sixth in assists per game (4.0), tied for first in the RMAC and nationally in free throw percentage (100), fifth in minutes per game (35:10) and sixth in total assists (8). AJ Sparks is sixth in the RMAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.80), third in assists per game (4.5), eighth in free throws made (9) and third in total assists (9). Farris is sixth in the RMAC in blocked shots per game (1.00), seventh in points per game (18.5), sixth in total blocks (2) and ninth in both total field goals made (13) and total points (37). Beasley is first in the RMAC and 16th nationally in double-doubles (1), fifth in field goal percentage (55.6), fifth in free throws made (10) and ninth in rebounds per game (7.0). Iyekekpolor is sixth in the RMAC in offensive rebounds per game (2.50) and ninth in rebounds per game (7.0). Biggs is fifth in the RMAC in three point field goals per game (2.50), third in the RMAC and 43rd nationally in three point field goal percentage (62.5) and sixth in three point field goals made (5).

First up will be a meeting with Northern New Mexico on Wednesday night. The teams also played last year on Nov. 16 for the Nike N7 games. In that meeting from last year, FLC took the 95-81 victory with DJ Miles leading the way with 21 points. Beasley added 17 points, Rasmus Bach with 15 and Farris tallied 13. The teams also faced each other again in Durango on Dec. 18 with the Skyhawks rolling to the 104-59 win. Seven players scored in double-figures led by 18 from Beasley, as he made it a double-double with 13 rebounds. Bach added 17 and Ranson recorded 15.

The Eagles are 3-2 on the season and will play at home against Adams State on Tuesday night before traveling to Durango. Northern New Mexico dropped their past two road games at Mid-America Christian (114-78) and Oklahoma City (102-90). Makye Richards leads the team averaging 18.4 points per contest, while Naquwan Solomon adds 16.2 per game. Ibrahima Diagne pulls down a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game.

To close the week, FLC will face the University of the Southwest on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs are 1-3 on the season and have lost their past two games against Mid-America Christian (105-71) and University of Arts Sciences (102-93). They will play at Wayland Baptist in Texas Tuesday night before facing FLC. Ron'Quis Lewis leads the team averaging 19.7 points per game, with Emmanuel McNeil adding 12.8 and Demond Parker at 12.5 per contest. McNeil grabs a team-high nine rebounds per game.
