Men’s Basketball Takes Three-Game Winning Streak Into RMAC Opener at Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Similar to the results the women's basketball team has been putting up, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball team has also put together a three-game winning streak over the past few weeks. They will now take their winning streak on the road to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Adams State in Alamosa.

FLC (4-1) has picked up three straight wins against Northern New Mexico (83-60), University of the Southwest (65-62) and most recently against Haskell Indian Nations (88-70). The Skyhawks average 77.6 points and allow 68 for a 9.6 scoring margin. FLC has connected on 42 percent (130-309) from the field, while opponents are at 43 percent. The Skyhawks are shooting 33 percent (37-113) from three, while opponents are at just 22 percent (20-90). FLC has forced 84 turnovers and turn that into an average of 19 points off turnovers.
Marquel Beasley has taken over during that time, leading the team in points per game at 20.4, making 35-64 (55) from the field and 7-14 from three. He also has pulled down 7.2 rebounds per game, five blocks, nine steals and eight assists. Riley Farris adds 13.3 points per game, Alex Semadeni at 10.8 points and Otas Iyekekpolor adds 10.2 points per game. Semadeni leads the team in assists with 24, Iyekekpolor has sent back 10 blocks and leads the team in rebounds at 7.8 per game. Semadeni is second in rebounds pulling down 7.4 per contest. Keven Biggs adds 7.8 points and Cesar Molina at 5.4. Biggs has sunk a team-best 10 three-pointers.

FLC ranks high in several RMAC and national categories including second in the RMAC and 51st nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.33), second in the RMAC and 33rd nationally in assists per game (17.8), fourth in the RMAC and 57th nationally in blocked shots per game (4.2), fifth in the RMAC in defensive rebounds per game (26.80), fifth in fewest fouls (96), fifth in the RMAC and 78th nationally in free throws made (91), first in the RMAC and 41st nationally in offensive rebounds per game (13.40), fourth in the RMAC and 85th nationally in rebound margin (5.0), fourth in the RMAC and 66th nationally in scoring defense (68), third in the RMAC and 87th nationally in scoring margin (9.6), first nationally in three point field goal defense (22.2), third in the RMAC and 82nd nationally in total assists (89), second in the RMAC and 74th nationally in total blocks (21), second in the RMAC and 56th nationally in total rebounds per game (40.20), third in the RMAC and 57th nationally in turnover margin (3.4), second in the RMAC and 55th nationally in turnovers forced (16.80), fourth in the RMAC in turnovers per game (13.4) and second in the RMAC and 47th nationally in win-loss percentage (80).

Individually, Semadeni is third in the RMAC and 42nd nationally in assist turnover ratio (3.0), third in the RMAC and 76th nationally in assists per game (4.8), sixth in the RMAC and 99th nationally in free throw percentage (87.5), sixth in the RMAC and 90th nationally in minutes per game (34:40), seventh in the RMAC in offensive rebounds per game (2.60), sixth in the RMAC in rebounds per game (7.4), sixth in the RMAC in total assists (24) and 10th in the RMAC in total rebounds (37). Iyekekpolor is second in the RMAC and 33rd nationally in blocked shots per game (2.0), tied for first in the RMAC and 49th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (3.20), fourth in the RMAC in rebounds per game (7.8), first in the RMAC and 32nd nationally in total blocks (10) and eighth in the RMAC in total rebounds (39). Beasley is eighth in the RMAC in field goal percentage (54.7), third in the RMAC and 93rd nationally in free throws made (25), seventh in the RMAC in offensive rebounds per game (2.60), fourth in the RMAC and 59th nationally in points per game (20.4), ninth in the RMAC in rebounds per game (7.2), seventh in the RMAC in steals per game (1.80), sixth in the RMAC in total field goals made (35), fourth in the RMAC in total points (102) and seventh in the RMAC in total steals (9).

Last year, the teams played three times with FLC winning two of three. In the first meeting in Durango, FLC pulled out the overtime 103-96 win. In the regular season rematch later in Alamosa, the Grizzlies took the 107-93 win. Then they faced off in the RMAC Tournament in Durango with the Skyhawks taking the 87-74 win. In the meeting in Alamosa, Rasmus Bach went for 27 points, Beasley added 23 and Daniel Hernandez rounded out the three in double-figures with 17. In the RMAC Tournament game, five scored in double-figures led by 20 points from Bach. Brandon Wilson added 17, Beasley with 15, DJ Miles with 13 and Hernandez with 12.

It's been a slow start to the season for Adams State as the Grizzlies are 0-5 and 0-2 at Plachy Hall. Adams State has come close in several games, falling by three to UT Permian Basin, four to Wayland Baptist and Midwestern State, eight to Central Baptist and most recently nine at Angelo State. Adams State averages 87.6 points per game and allows 97.4 per game. They make 46 percent from the field and allow 52 percent. John Dewey leads the offense averaging 23.6 points per game, while Rickey Norris adds 15.2 and Davere Creighton at 12.4 points per game. Norris leads the team in rebounds at 6.2 per game, Dewey has 23 assists, Norris has 13 steals and both Shemar Johnson and Jared Perry have three steals.
