Softball Series Against Black Hills State Moved to Alamosa This Weekend

ALAMOSA, Colo. – With recent weather in the area, the Aztec Softball Field became unplayable, so the Fort Lewis College softball team will now travel back to Alamosa to host Black Hills State in a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference series this Saturday starting at noon and Sunday starting at 11 a.m. at the ASU Softball Field.

Ironically, both teams have spent the past two weeks playing at the ASU Softball Field with FLC playing there two weeks ago and Black Hills State this past weekend.

This marks the second "home" series that the Skyhawks have had to play away from home, as the season-opening RMAC series against Colorado Mesa, that was originally scheduled for Durango/Aztec ended up being moved to Grand Junction that weekend.

FLC has been close throughout this season in multiple games and enter with a 6-19 overall record and 1-11 mark in RMAC contests. This past weekend, the Skyhawks came close to taking a couple of games against Colorado Christian before the Cougars rallied in both games to take the four-game series sweep.

The Skyhawks are hitting .285 as a team and opponents are at .351. Angelique Elemen continues to lead the team in batting average (.450), runs (24), hits (36), home runs (11), RBI (22), total bases (77), slugging percentage (.963), on-base percentage (.516) and tied for the most doubles (8). She remains the national leader in both home runs and total bases.
Elemen continues to add to her program record in home runs with 51 and RBI with 164. She also leads the program in total bases, currently at 397. She is within five home runs of tying for second in RMAC history and she is just six RBI away from landing in the top-10 in RMAC history. Elemen added another double for 42 in her career to sit just two away from tying for the top spot in program history. Other numbers include 201 hits, 111 runs scored and 554 putouts. She is third in program history in hits, just three away from tying for second, fourth in runs and fifth in putouts.

McKenna Hefley is second on the team with a .375 batting average and has three home runs, eight doubles and 16 RBI. Taylor Hollestelle is second on the team in both hone runs with five and RBI with 21, while adding a .341 batting average. Kylie Hefley has four home runs and 13 RBI, while Hannah Gondini is hitting over .300, currently at .304.

In the circle, Emily Morris and Kassidy Trumbo lead the team with two wins apiece, while Morris has a 6.22 ERA in 45 innings. Trumbo has tossed 45.1 innings so far this season and has a 6.79 ERA. Kelly Decker has worked 35.1 innings, Dana Dwyer has tossed 10.0 innings and Mackenzie Parks is at six innings of work in the circle.

Black Hills State is 7-10 overall and 4-5 in RMAC play and are in the same situation of having yet to play at home this season. The Yellow Jackets "hosted" a series against Colorado School of Mines in Denver in which they went 1-2 and then went 1-1 against Regis and CSU-Pueblo with the games taking place in Pueblo.

This past weekend they split a four-game series at Adams State with the Grizzlies winning the last game 12-11 on a walk-off hit. The Yellow Jackets are hitting .309 as a team and opponents are at .302. Kindall Bethke leads the team with a .441 average, along with seven RBI. Alex Wiley is also hitting over .400, currently sitting at .429. Brittany Henricksen leads the team with three home runs and 13 RBI.

In the circle, Crystal Amaral leads the team in innings pitched with 48.1, wins with four and in ERA at 3.91. Wiley also pitches and is second on the team in innings pitched with 38.1, wins with three and in ERA at 4.20.

Live video and stats will be available for all four games.

Entering this week, Colorado Christian leads the RMAC with an 8-2 record, while Colorado Mesa is second at 9-3. UC-Colorado Springs is third at 8-3 and MSU Denver rounds out the top-four at 7-3. Dixie State is fifth at 8-4 and both Regis and Colorado School of Mines are tied for sixth at 6-3. Adams State holds the eighth and final tournament spot at 5-6, followed closely by Black Hills State and New Mexico Highlands in ninth at 4-5. Chadron State is 11th at 2-9, Fort Lewis is 12th at 1-11 and CSU-Pueblo is 13th at 0-10.

Up next, FLC will travel to Colorado Springs to play a pod series against UC-Colorado Springs and Regis on Saturday and Sunday.
