Lacrosse Travels to Denver This Friday to Face #7 Regis

DENVER, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College lacrosse team will look to carry the momentum from a solid win against Oklahoma Baptist into a tough matchup with #7 Regis this Friday at 3:30 p.m.

The Skyhawks are 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in RMAC play after picking up the 16-6 win over the Bison on Monday. Rachel Hurst and Ann Nelson each went for four goals in the contest.

As a team, FLC has tallied 25 goals and allowed 39, firing 60 shots with 48 landing on goal, while the opposition has taken 98 shots with 66 on goal. Abby Escandon leads the team in points with eight, recording two goals and six assists. Delaney Benson has six points coming on six goals and then both Nelson and Hurst have five points tallying four goals and an assist.

In net, Daris Wienk has started all three games and logged 180 minutes posting 27 saves and has the win this season.

Last year, the teams played twice within a few weeks span as Regis won in Denver (24-6) and then in Durango (21-5). In the most recent meeting, Kelli Warmouth scored two goals to pace the Skyhawks.

Regis is off to a strong start at 6-0 and will face New York Institute of Technology Wednesday afternoon. The Rangers have two ranked wins over #11 Tampa (20-19) and #15 Grand Valley State (15-12), along with defeating both CSU-Pueblo (15-5) and UC-Colorado Springs (18-9) in non-conference action. The match against FLC will be the RMAC opener for the Rangers.

As a team, Regis has 103 goals and allowed 64, taking 177 shots, with 157 on goal, while opponents have taken 158 shots, with 127 landing on goal. The Rangers have been steady in both periods outscoring teams 47-29 in the first half and then 55-35 in the second half. They also have a goal in overtime.

Sarah Myers leads the team in points with 48, tallying 35 goals and 13 assists. Kyleigh Peoples has 26 points with 12 goals and 14 assists, Ali Vanek adds 13 goals and 10 assists for 23 points and Wendy Donier gives the Rangers four players with over 20 points at 22 with 20 goals and two assists.

In net, Elle Crawford has started all six games logging over 317 minutes and is 6-0 with 60 saves. Hope Correia has played 44 minutes this season and has three saves.

After the game at Regis, FLC will return home to host Westminster on Friday, Mar. 29 at 1:30 p.m. and then UC-Colorado Springs on Sunday, Apr. 7 at noon. The site of both games is yet to be determined, but will be either Ray Dennison Field or down in Aztec at the Aztec Tiger Sports Complex.
