Lacrosse to Play Home Opener at Ray Dennison This Friday Against Westminster

DURANGO, Colo. – Having played a couple of games down in Aztec, the Fort Lewis College lacrosse team will now get to enjoy a game on their own home field when they host Westminster this Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Ray Dennison Field.

FLC (1-3, 1-2 RMAC) faced #7 Regis this past Friday and showed resiliency fighting back a couple of times before falling short, 7-19. Abby Escandon recorded a hat trick, Allena Wolfblack added a goal and an assist, while Rachel Hurst dished out two assists. In net, Daris Wienk tallied 13 saves.

The Skyhawks hosted both Rockhurst and Oklahoma Baptist over the past few weeks down in Aztec, coming away with the 16-6 win over Oklahoma Baptist on Mar. 18.

As a team, FLC has scored 32 goals and allowed 58, taking 87 shots with 68 landing on goal. Opponents have fired 133 shots with 98 landing on goal. Escandon leads the team in points with 11, collecting five goals and six assists. She's been accurate attempting nine shots, with seven landing on goal. Delaney Benson leads the team in goals with seven, while Ann Nelson adds five. Hurst is tied for second on the team in points with seven, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists. Aitana Rivera leads the team in groundballs with 12, Hurst has caused seven turnovers and Nelson has 14 draw controls.  In net, Wienk has started all four games compiling 240 minutes and 40 saves.

Individually, Escandon is seventh in the RMAC and 75th nationally in assists per game (1.50), Hurst is seventh in the RMAC and 73rd nationally in caused turnovers per game (1.75) and 10th in the RMAC in groundballs per game (2.75), Nelson is 10th in the RMAC in both caused turnovers per game (1.50) and draw controls per game (3.50), Rivera is 10th in the RMAC in caused turnovers per game and eighth in the RMAC and 80th nationally in groundballs per game (2.75), Benson is sixth in the RMAC and 75th nationally in free position goals per game (0.75), Wienk is third in the RMAC and 24th nationally in saves per game (10), eighth in the RMAC and 65th nationally in goals against average (14.50), eighth in the RMAC and 62nd nationally in save percentage (.408) and ninth in the RMAC and 90th nationally in saves (40).

FLC will face Westminster on Friday as the Griffins are 1-6 overall and 1-2 in RMAC play. They hold a 0-3 record away from home in true road games and an 0-1 mark in neutral contests. Last time out, Westminster defeated Oklahoma Baptist, 17-9.

Last year, FLC took both matchups as they won the regular season finale 10-9 in Salt Lake City and then the teams turned around and played in the RMAC Tournament six days later and the Skyhawks claimed the 12-11 win in overtime. In the most recent matchup, both Kelli Warmouth and Regan Olson recorded hat tricks, while Taylor Cabrera, Wolfblack and Anna Dennison scored two goals apiece.

Westminster has scored 43 goals and allowed 121, firing 127 shots with 104 on goal while opponents have taken 236 shots with 185 on goal. Madie Ingman leads the team in points with 16, collecting 12 goals and four assists. Katie Hendershott has added 10 points with five goals and five assists. Eden Freiberg, Audree Erekson and Lauren Shoughro have all scored five goals. Mikala Davis leads the team in groundballs with 27, Kenna Tychsen has caused nine turnovers and Erekson has 12 draw controls.

In net, Mikala Davis has started six of the games and has played in all seven games, logging 334:43 minutes and has 60 saves. Kinsey Erickson has played in five games logging 85:17 minutes and has four saves.

A look around the RMAC has Lindenwood in first at 3-0, Regis in second at 2-0 and Rockhurst third at 3-1. Colorado Mesa is fourth at 2-1 and then CSU-Pueblo and UCCS are tied for fifth at 1-1. Fort Lewis and Westminster are just a half-game back at 1-2 and tied for seventh, while Oklahoma Baptist is ninth at 1-4 and Adams State is 10th at 0-3.
