Softball to Play at Home at Aspen Field This Weekend Against Orediggers, Mountain Lions

DURANGO, Colo. – The first 33 games of the season for the Fort Lewis College softball team were all on the road. For this coming weekend, the Skyhawks will be able to stay home and play at Aspen Field for the first time this season when they host Colorado School of Mines and UC-Colorado Springs in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pod series Saturday and Sunday.

The schedule for the weekend will be on Saturday FLC and UC-Colorado Springs will open the action at 11 a.m. UC-Colorado Springs and Colorado School of Mines will then play a neutral site game at 1 p.m. before Colorado School of Mines will play FLC at 3 p.m.

On Sunday, FLC will open the day against Colorado School of Mines at 10 a.m., then UC-Colorado Springs and Colorado School of Mines will play another neutral site game at noon before UC-Colorado Springs will play FLC to close the weekend at 2 p.m.

This is the second of three pod series FLC will play in this year having already played in one last weekend in Colorado Springs. They will also face Chadron State and CSU-Pueblo in a pod series Apr. 19-20 in Pueblo.

Technically this season the Skyhawks served as the "host" team when they played Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction Feb. 24-25 and then against Black Hills State Mar. 16-17 in Alamosa at Adams State University.

FLC enters the week with a 9-24 overall record and 4-16 mark in RMAC play. The Skyhawks defeated Regis, 9-7, to open the pod series last weekend before falling just short in the second game against UC-Colorado Springs, 4-5, in eight innings. On Sunday, UC-Colorado Springs took the first game 13-5 in six innings and then Regis won 9-1 in five innings to close the pod for FLC.

It was another week and another program record for Angelique Elemen as she set the record for doubles hitting her 45th career double against UC-Colorado Springs. She continues to add to her program record in home runs, hitting another this past weekend to move to 52 and in RBI, which is now at 172 following five this past weekend. Elemen also holds the total base record which is currently at 414. She is within four home runs of tying for second in RMAC history in home runs and she recently moved into the top-10 in RMAC history in RBI, currently sitting ninth. Elemen is just 16 RBI away from breaking into the top-five, two away from eighth, seven away from seventh and 13 away from sixth. Other numbers include 212 hits, 114 runs scored, 616 putouts and 61 walks. Elemen is second in program history in hits, just 12 away from tying Missy Fundora for the top spot in program history. She is fourth in runs scored, fifth in putouts, just two back of fourth and seventh in walks, two back of sixth.

Overall as a team, FLC is hitting .294 with 178 runs scored, 265 hits, 50 doubles, eight triples, 35 home runs and 164 RBI. In the circle, FLC holds a 6.71 ERA in 202.1 innings, along with 135 strikeouts.

Elemen leads the team in average (.465), runs scored (31), hits (47), doubles (11), home runs (12), RBI (30), total bases (94), slugging percentage (.931) and on-base percentage. McKenna Hefley is second on the team in average at .379 along with nine doubles, a triple, five home runs and 21 RBI. Taylor Hollestelle holds a .339 average with 38 hits, nine doubles, two triples, six home runs and 22 RBI. Pilar Gutierrez is at .322 with 29 hits, three doubles, a pair of home runs and 15 RBI. Kylie Hefley is at four home runs and 17 RBI and is hitting .265. Taylor Beaman holds the top average off the bench at .304 and Kaitlyn Barlow has hit three home runs.

In the circle, Emily Morris leads the way with a 5.54 ERA in 54.1 innings and has three wins. Kassidy Trumbo adds two wins and a 5.63 ERA in 69.2 innings, while Kelly Decker, Dana Dwyer and Mackenzie Parks all have added wins this season.

FLC ranks in the top-five in the RMAC and in the top-100 nationally in doubles per game (1.52) 75th nationally, third in the RMAC and 17th nationally in home runs per game (1.06), sixth in the RMAC and 73rd nationally in scoring (5.39), fifth in the RMAC and 36th nationally in slugging percentage (.483), fourth in the RMAC and 92nd nationally in triples per game (.24).

Individually, Elemen ranks first nationally in total bases (94), first in the RMAC and third nationally in home runs (12), first in the RMAC and 11th nationally in home runs per game (0.36), second in the RMAC and eighth nationally in slugging percentage (.931), third in the RMAC and 32nd nationally in on-base percentage (.542), fourth in the RMAC and 36th nationally in batting average (.465), fifth in the RMAC and 19th nationally in doubles (11), sixth in the RMAC and 42nd nationally in RBI (30) and 10th in the RMAC in toughest to strikeout. McKenna Hefley is 10th in the RMAC and 65th nationally in doubles (9) and 97th nationally in total bases (59). Hollestelle is eighth in the RMAC and 37th nationally in total bases (69), eighth in the RMAC and 68th nationally in home runs (6), 10th in the RMAC and 65th nationally in doubles (9), 10th in the RMAC and 70th nationally in hits (38). Morris is third in the RMAC and 75th nationally in strikeouts per seven innings (6.8).

FLC will open against UCCS after just playing the Mountain Lions this past weekend. UCCS is 15-16 overall and 11-8 in RMAC play holding a 1-10 record away from home and 4-5 in neutral site contests. The Mountain Lions are hitting .293 as a team with Melissa Martinek leading the way with a .392 average, 11 doubles, eight home runs and 34 RBI. Rayle Glover is at .388 with nine home runs and 29 RBI. Peyton Reisman adds a .387 average and Sawyer Brewster is at .300.

In the circle, the Mountain Lions have a 4.67 ERA with Braelyne Crenshaw leading the way with a 4.09 ERA with four wins in 61.2 innings pitched. Taylor Reidhead has a 4.47 ERA in 76.2 innings and has six wins. Cami Duffey adds five wins in 53.2 innings and a 5.61 ERA.

Colorado School of Mines is 14-11 overall and 13-4 in RMAC play posting a 4-2 record away from home and a 2-6 mark in neutral site contests. Last year, the teams met in Aztec with the Orediggers taking three of four games.

This past weekend, Mines took three of four from Dixie State facing the Trailblazers on the campus of Regis with Mines' facility still under construction. As a team, Colorado School of Mines is hitting a .290 average with Kendall Murphy posting a .385 average with 11 doubles, two home runs and 17 RBI. Clara Larson adds a .363 average with two home runs and 23 RBI. Katie Leiker has a .310 average and Megan Dickson is at .301.

In the circle, the Orediggers have a 2.59 ERA with Claire Stringfellow holding a 2.01 ERA in 66.1 innings and has six wins. Sydney Marchando has a 2.62 ERA with eight wins in 74.2 innings pitched.

A look around the RMAC has Colorado Christian in first place with a 14-2 record, followed by Colorado Mesa in second with a 16-3 record and Colorado School of Mines in third with a 13-4 mark. Dixie State is fourth at 13-7, UCCS is fifth at 11-8, MSU Denver is sixth at 10-8, Regis is seventh at 8-7 and Black Hills State holds the eighth and final tournament spot at 6-7. New Mexico Highlands is right behind at 5-8 in ninth, Adams State is 10th at 6-13, CSU-Pueblo is 11th at 4-14, Fort Lewis is 12th at 4-16 and Chadron State is 13th at 3-16.
