Softball Travels to Lakewood to Face Colorado Christian This Weekend

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – After already playing the first 21 games away from Durango, the Fort Lewis College softball team will play four more on the road this weekend when they will face Colorado Christian for a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheaders on Friday starting at 1 p.m. and Saturday at noon. The Friday games will be played at MSU Denver, while the Saturday games will be played at UC-Colorado Springs due to snow on the Colorado Christian field.

FLC was supposed to host Colorado Mesa on Feb. 24-25, but due to weather conditions on Aspen Field and on possible fields nearby, the teams flipped sites and Colorado Mesa ended up hosting. The home opener right now is set for the Black Hills State series Mar. 16-17, but a site has yet to be determined, but most likely will be Aztec if Aspen Field is still not ready.

Fort Lewis is 6-15 overall and 1-7 in RMAC play having dominated Adams State, 21-2, in the series finale on Sunday. Taylor Hollestelle capped what was a huge weekend in that game going 5-5 with four RBI and four runs scored on her way to being named the RMAC Player of the Week.

The offense has put together impressive numbers to start the season holding a .296 batting average with 176 hits, 125 runs scored, 34 doubles, four triples, 26 home runs and 113 RBI.

Elemen continues to add to her program record in home runs, now at 51 and in RBI, now at 164. She recently set the total base program record, which is now at 389. Elemen is now within five home runs of tying for second in RMAC history and her 164 RBI is just six away from landing in the top-10 in RMAC history. She added another double for 41 in her career to sit just three away from tying for the top spot in program history. Other numbers include 194 hits, 110 runs scored and 539 putouts. Elemen is fourth in program history in hits, just three away from tying for third, fourth in runs scored and fifth in putouts.
