Lacrosse Set to Face Concordia St. Paul in Pueblo Saturday, Host Rockhurst Monday

PUEBLO/DURANGO, Colo. – The 2019 season will begin for the Fort Lewis College lacrosse team when they travel to Pueblo this Saturday to face Concordia St. Paul in a neutral site contest. They will then turn around and play Rockhurst on Monday to open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

FLC will face Concordia St. Paul at noon on Saturday at the CSU-Pueblo soccer/lacrosse fields and then come home to face Rockhurst on Monday starting at 2 p.m. The home opener won't be played on Ray Dennison Field with snow still on the field. Right now, an actual site to host the game is being determined, but looks like Aztec.

Last year, the Skyhawks went 7-7 and 6-3 in RMAC play, advancing to the RMAC Tournament. FLC won three of their last four games to finish the regular season and then defeated Westminster twice within a week, with the second coming in the RMAC Tournament in overtime.

As a team, FLC scored 49 goals and allowed 75, putting together a 44 percent shooting percentage to a 48 percent clip by the opposition. Shots on goal were close with the Skyhawks right near 27 shots and opponents at 26 per game.

Kelli Warmouth led the team last year in goals (38) and points (45). Taylor Cabrera and Regan Olson were second with 36 points apiece. Anna Dennison returns from last season as she tallied 13 goals and seven assists for 20 points last year as a true freshman. Abby Escandon also played as a true freshman in 2018 and tallied 14 goals and four assists for 18 points. Delaney Benson compiled 13 points, with 11 goals last year as a sophomore. Seniors Allena Wolfblack and Aitana Rivera were solid on defense last year combining to play in 26 games. Daris Wienk returns in net after playing in 13 games and picking up six wins. Seven players will enter the season as true freshmen.

The first game of the season will be against Concordia St. Paul on Saturday at noon. The Golden Bears have already played four games, all against RMAC opponents, defeating Rockhurst and Adams State, while falling to Lindenwood and CSU-Pueblo. Last time out, Concordia St. Paul faced CSU-Pueblo and fell to the ThunderWolves, 11-10, on Thursday.
The Golden Bears have scored 49 goals and have allowed 41. Maddie Hentges leads the team with 10 points, which includes eight goals. Kailey Heinl adds six goals. In net, Katie Lottsfeldt has played four games and is 1-2, while Claire Hagen has seen action in two games and is 1-0.

FLC will then turnaround and host Rockhurst on Monday for the conference opener at 2 p.m. The game right now will be played in Aztec. The Hawks are 3-4 on the season with wins against Palm Beach Atlantic and McKendree. They will face Westminster on Saturday before playing the Skyhawks.

Rockhurst has scored 86 goals and have allowed 86 goals. Hannah Miller leads the team with 23 points and 18 goals. Marianna Anderson and Logan Derosia add 19 goals apiece. In the net, three have seen action with Molly Dunham playing in six games and is 2-3.

Following the games this week, FLC will remain at home to face Lindenwood on Thursday starting at 1:30 p.m. and then the homestand will continue facing Oklahoma Baptist the following Monday, March 18.
