Lacrosse Opens Four-Game Road Swing This Friday at Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College lacrosse team will face four teams on the road over the course of the final two weeks of the regular season looking to try and make a push for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

The road trip begins this week as FLC (1-5, 1-4 RMAC) will travel to Alamosa to face Adams State this Friday starting at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks will then be off until Apr. 19 when they will play Lindenwood in Colorado Springs and then the next day in Pueblo against CSU-Pueblo on Apr. 20. The regular season will end on Apr. 26 in Grand Junction against Colorado Mesa.

Rachel Hurst recorded a hat trick last time out against UC-Colorado Springs on senior day as the Mountain Lions were able to use a pair of strong scoring runs to take the 16-6 victory. Daris Wienk turned away 16 shots in net.

As a team, FLC has scored 48 goals taking 127 shots with 102 on goal. Opponents have scored 87 goals taking 214 shots and 156 landing on goal. Abby Escandon leads the team in scoring with 17 points, recording seven goals and 10 assists. Hurst has 11 points, posting eight goals and Delaney Benson adds 10 points with nine goals. Benson leads the team in scoring with nine goals, followed by eight from Hurst and then both Escandon and Allena Wolfblack have seven goals apiece. Wienk leads the team in groundballs at 19, Aitana Rivera leads the team in caused turnovers with 10 and Ann Nelson leads the way in draw controls with 17. Wienk has tallied 69 saves this year in starting all six games.

FLC ranks in the top-six in the RMAC in save percentage (.442), sixth in the RMAC and 54th nationally, fourth in the RMAC and 64th nationally in turnovers per game (19.83). Individually, Escandon is third in the RMAC and 54th nationally in assists per game (1.67), Rivera is eighth in the RMAC and 74th nationally in caused turnovers per game (1.67), Benson is eighth in the RMAC and 92nd nationally in free position goals per game (0.67), Wienk is second in the RMAC and 13th nationally in saves per game (11.50), fifth in the RMAC in save percentage (.442) and saves (69), ranking 47th nationally in save percentage and 76th nationally in saves. She is also seventh in the RMAC and 65th nationally in goals against average (14.50) and eighth in the RMAC and 63rd nationally in groundballs per game (3.17).

Last year, FLC rolled to a 21-0 win over Adams State in Durango. Four players recorded at least a hat trick with Kelli Warmouth and Escandon posting four goals apiece and then Regan Olson and Taylor Cabrera collecting hat tricks. The Skyhawks held a 34-15 advantage in shots and 28-8 on goal.

The Grizzlies are 0-8 this season and 0-4 in RMAC, holding an 0-2 record at home. Adams State has been shutout in their past two games against CSU-Pueblo (20-0) and UC-Colorado Springs (28-0). They last played on Apr. 5 against UCCS in Alamosa.

The Grizzlies have scored 12 goals taking 74 shots with 48 on goal. Opponents have tallied 184 goals taking 360 shots and 284 on goal. Savannah Penland has scored six of the goals, while Madison Gerchow has posted four goals. Louisa Sanchez leads the way in groundballs with 18, Penland has caused seven turnovers and Gerchow has 31 draw controls. In net, Sanchez has started all eight games and has 100 saves.

A look around the RMAC has Lindenwood and Regis in first with 4-0 records. Colorado Mesa and Rockhurst are tied for third at 4-2, UCCS is fifth at 3-2 and Westminster holds the sixth and final tournament spot at 2-2. Oklahoma Baptist, Fort Lewis and CSU-Pueblo are tied for seventh at 1-4 and Adams State is 10th at 0-4.
