Lienemann Pushes for Top-20 Finish as Men’s Golf Places Ninth at RMAC Championships

Austin Lienemann kept pushing for a top-20 finish and just missed coming in tied for 23rd after the final round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships wrapped up Tuesday at the par 71, 6,737-yard Ocotillo Golf Resort. As a team, the Fort Lewis College men's golf team came in ninth place.

FLC fired rounds of 301-292-287 for an 880 to end up just seven-shots back of CSU-Pueblo. Colorado School of Mines just held off Dixie State to win the 10-team tournament with an 826, one-stroke better than Dixie State.  Individually, Dixie State's Nicklaus Britt held off teammate Spencer Wallace to win with a 200, two-strokes ahead of Wallace.

Lienemann put together rounds of 78-66-73 to move into a tie for 23rd with a 217. His round of 66 was one of the lowest scores throughout the tournament, with only a pair of 65's being better. He sunk birdies on holes two, five, seven, 11 and 18 and added seven pars. Darren Edwards wasn't far behind as he carded a 221 with scores of 75-75-71 to tie for 34th. He tallied birdies on holes two, five, eight, 11, 13 and 15 and added six pars. Tyler Blohm also tied Edwards for 34th with scores of 77-72-72 for his 221. Blohm added a birdie on hole 11 and had 15 pars. Jack Call and Eric Neal finished within a stroke of each other with Call tying for 43rd with rounds of 76-81-71 for a 228 and Neal in 46th with rounds of 73-79-77 for a 229. Call tallied birdies on holes two, five, 11 and 16, while adding 11 pars. Neal had a birdie on hole 13 and strung together 13 pars.

As a team, FLC averaged 3.47 on par-three, 4.21 on par-four and 4.73 on par-five. They tallied 144 pars, 43 birdies and one eagle. Individually, Call and Lienemann tied for the team lead in par-three (3.33), Edwards led the team in par-four (4.12) and Lienemann led the way in par-five (4.44). Neal had a team-best 33 pars, Lienemann sunk 15 birdies and Edwards had one of just nine eagles throughout the tournament.

It was the second straight RMAC Championships for Blohm and Lienemann as nearly shot the same score as last year when he carded a 220, while Lienemann trimmed six-strokes off last year's pace.
