Kot earns week three RMAC Offensive Player of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior Akuel kot was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in leading Fort Lewis College to a perfect 6-0 non-conference schedule and sweep of regional opponents last week.

Kot, a native of Amarillo, Texas, produced 60 points in as many minutes across both games against Navajo Technical University and Southeastern Oklahoma State University last week. This week's honor is the second of the season and career for Kot.

Kot led the Skyhawks to a 99-85 win over SOSU, shooting a phenomenal 11-15 from the floor, 6-9 from the three-point line, and 6-7 at the free-throw line. Additionally, Kot supplied two rebounds, one steal, and season-highs in both blocks with two and assists with three.

With the win over the Savage Storm, Fort Lewis completed its 4-0 sweep over regional opponents: a mark that could prove vital come March and the selection show for the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

On Saturday, Kot played just 26 in the blowout win, scoring 26 points on shooting 9-15 from the floor, 1-4 from the three-point line, and a perfect 7-7 at the charity stripe. Kot also grabbed a season-high three steals alongside four rebounds.

Kot now stands alone atop the country as the NCAA Division II leader in scoring averaging 29.2 points per game. The mark is 3.8 points higher than the second-closest player, and fourth highest across all NCAA Divisions (I, II, III). Kot also leads the nation in both free throws made and free throw attempts.

Fort Lewis begins its sprint through the RMAC schedule this Thursday, Dec. 1, at Adams State University.
