Men’s basketball remains in national polls

DURANGO, Colo. – After being dealt its first loss of the season just two weeks ago, the Fort Lewis College men's basketball program remains in the latest national polls coming in at No. 15 on the National Association of Basketball Coaches and No. 18 on the D2SIDA Media Top 25 polls this week.
 
The Skyhawks sit 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Prior to the holiday break, Fort Lewis took its first loss of the season 93-79 at the hands of the Westminster Griffins in Salt Lake City, Utah.
 
In the latest NABC Top 25 Poll, the Skyhawks have fallen to No. 15 just behind Bentley (9-1, 4-1 NE10) and just ahead of West Virginia State (9-1, 6-1 NEC).
 
On the D2SIDA Media Top 25 Poll, Fort Lewis has made its largest jump of the season moving up four spots to No. 18. In the D2SIDA Media South Central Regional Poll, the top three teams are identical to the current RMAC standings with Black Hills State (11-0, 5-0 RMAC) at No. 1, Colorado School of Mines (11-1, 5-1 RMAC) at No. 2, and Fort Lewis at No. 3.
 
Black Hills State continues to lead RMAC schools in both polls, coming at No. 3 on both the NABC and D2SIDA Media polls. Mines moves up on just the NABC poll to No. 8, remaining stagnant on the D2SIDA Media poll at No. 9.
 
Fort Lewis has a pair of critical matches this weekend to close out the new year. The Skyhawks will return from the holiday break for a matchup with South Dakota School of Mines this Friday, Dec. 30, at 5:00 p.m. Saturday's game is set to be a heavyweight matchup as No. 3/3 Black Hills State comes to town. Tip-off against the Yellow Jackets is slated for 5:30 p.m.
