Trio of Skyhawks Earned All-Conference Recognition, Basso Named Co-Goalie of the Year

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) released its women's lacrosse All-Conference teams on Wednesday with three Fort Lewis College players earning recognition. Junior goalkeeper Averi Basso headlined the trio after being named RMAC Co-Goalie of the Year with Madison McGriff of UCCS as well as earning First Team All-Conference nods.

Redshirt sophomore Rebecca Kiyokawa earned a spot on the Second Team, the second All-Conference honor of her Skyhawks career, while Haley Dostie was an Honorable Mention pick.

"I am extremely proud of Averi, Becca, and Haley. These girls have worked hard all year round and this is truly such a great accomplishment that shows their hard work," acknowledged head coach Ashley Travis.

Basso's Co-Goalie of the Year and First Team pick-ups are well-deserved for the Lake Oswego, Oregon native. She has shined between the pipes, starting in all 15 games while compiling a single-season school record 154 saves. She currently ranks second in the conference in saves per game at 10.27 and holds a .421 save percentage. The junior recently surpassed 200 career saves and has since racked up 265 total saves to rank second in Fort Lewis women's lacrosse history.

"Averi has been amazing between the pipes for us this season. She is one of the most active goalies I have seen in my time coaching and makes remarkable saves that have really helped our playoff push," said Travis. "On top of Averi's amazing stats, she really stepped us this year as a fantastic leader for our program on and off the field. I am so excited to see that she received the honor of Co-Goalie of the Year as she has made an outstanding impact on our team."

Kiyokawa, a Second Team All-Conference selection, is no stranger to success. She burst onto the scene last season, starting in all 12 games and leading the team with 41 groundballs. The success that carried over this season has been no surprise, and the Oregon native has only become more dominant in her 2022 campaign. She leads the team and the league with 2.53 groundballs per game (38 total), including a season-high six groundballs versus Adams State. Additionally, she ranks third in the conference with 1.47 caused turnovers per game (22 total). Kiyokawa has played a major role in transition offense as well, feeding her attackers with a team-high seven assists to go along with five goals of her own. In case that wasn't impressive enough, she sits second on the team with 31 draw controls on the year.

"Becca has been a force all over the field for us this season. Leading the conference in groundballs and being versatile moving to midfield this year. She has created some awesome transition opportunities for our team and is overall aggressive and tenacious on both sides of the field,' recognized Travis.

Dostie has been an offensive threat from the jump, earning goals in all but two games this season. The sophomore leads the team with 33 goals to go along with seven assists. Her 2.20 goals per game average rank eighth in the conference She earned a season-high five goals and two assists in the team's final home game this season, helping the squad to a 15-14 win over CSU Pueblo. Dostie has been the offensive outlet that the team needed after losing its top offensive weapon from a season ago, but her success should come as no surprise. She tallied 22 goals and four assists in her freshman campaign and already ranks 11th in school history for career goals (55) with two seasons left to play.

"Getting Haley recognized as just a sophomore is great for our program as well. She has been a super aggressive and quick attacker for our program this season helping us pull away with some key conference wins. Her aggressiveness with the ball and on the re-defend have shown," stated Travis.

The Skyhawks will open the RMAC Tournament against the host and No.1-seeded Regis University Rangers on Friday at 7:00 p.m. from the Regis Lacrosse Field in Denver, Colorado.
