9/7/2022 5:00:00 PM

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team will play a home and away pair to wrap up the nonconference season this week. First, the team will welcome Eastern New Mexico University for a 7:00 p.m. home match on Thursday before hitting the road for a Sunday slate against Angelo State University.

Looking Back
The Skyhawks faced a pair of tough Lone Star Conference opponents on the road last week, falling by identical 3-0 decisions at the hands of West Texas A&M and St. Mary's University.

After holding West Texas A&M University scoreless through 38 minutes of play, the Fort Lewis College women's soccer team ultimately fell by a 3-0 final behind a hat-trick performance from the Buffs' Maria-Frances Serrant. WTAMU outshot Fort Lewis 30-11 for the match, including a 17-5 edge in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Katie Dunbabin got the start and earned nine goals in a very busy 45 minutes of action. Junior Madyson Barela led the team with three shots, one of which was on goal. Freshman Anna Tucker mirrored Barela with three shots, one on goal.

The outing against St. Mary's started much differently as the Rattlers doubled the Skyhawks up within 3:25 of play. The Rattlers would go on to score their third goal in the 69th minute to run away with a 3-0 shutout. Fort Lewis was outshot 19-3, including a 13-2 mark in shots on target. Danielle Gonzales, Aubrey Swindle, and Josie Coulter tallied the shots for Fort Lewis. Riley Bravin and Dunbabin split time at goalkeepers and combined for 10 saves.

Scouting Eastern New Mexico
The Greyhounds are 2-1 on the year and have taken on a trio of RMAC teams thus far. ENMU's wins have been over CSU Pueblo (1-0) and New Mexico Highlands (2-0).

ENMU is averaging one goal per game while allowing .33 per outing from the opposition. The Greyhounds put up 5.7 shots per game versus 12.3 for their opponents. Three players have one goal on the year while Kelsey Medina has an assist to her credit for three points. Samantha Jeffries has played in all 270 minutes at goalkeeper and has made 19 saves while allowing just one goal.

The team is under the guidance of first-year head coach Eric Belcher who joined the program in the summer. Before joining Eastern, Belcher spent a successful season at Ohio Valley University, where he led the program to a 13-2-1 record and the River States Conference in 2021.
ENMU was tabbed to finish 13th in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll after a 2-14-2 campaign in 2021.

Scouting Angelo State University
The Belles are 3-0-1 in the early goings, racking up wins over Colorado Christian, CSU Pueblo, and Regis. The team played to a 2-2 draw with Mines to mark the lone blemish on the schedule.

ASU is averaging 2.25 goals per game and holds the opposition to a .75 average through four contests. The team is averaging 11.3 shots per game compared to 8.8 for their foes. Reagan Urbany leads the team with three goals on five shots after notching just one goal last season. Grace Jordan has two goals to her credit, and four additional players have one goal on the year. Kira Miller has played 360 minutes between the pipes and holds a .75 goals against average with 12 saves.

ASU came in second in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll and earned 10 first-place votes. The Belles are the defending league champions and return the preseason goalkeeper of the year and the preseason defender of the year for the second consecutive season. The team was 16-5-2 last season.

Keepers Come in Threes
It has been goalkeeping my committee for the Skyhawks in 2022 with Katie Dunbabin, Riley Bravin, and Katlyn Rosenbaum splitting time. Dunbabin leads the team with 180 minutes played and holds a 2.00 goals against average with 25 saves. The junior is coming off a nine-save outing in 45 minutes versus West Texas last week. Bravin and Rosenbaum have each seen the field in 90 minutes and each have a 1.00 goals against average.

Mines is averaging 3.25 goals per game to lead the pack, followed by Colorado Mesa at three goals per game. MSU Denver is first in the conference with just .50 goals allowed per game.
