COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- For the first time in her young Skyhawks career, freshman Linda Weigang has been named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week, announced by the league on Wednesday. It is the first RMAC Runner of the Week honor for a Fort Lewis student-athlete since 2004.

Weigang ran herself into the conference and national spotlight over the weekend with an impressive sixth-place finish at the prestigious Lewis Crossover Invitational. Her 6k time of 21:24.7 was the best time amongst athletes from the RMAC. Ultimately, she crossed the finish line ahead of some of the fastest runners in NCAA Division II, including members of the 2022 All-American team, and just seconds behind a pair of upperclassmen All-Americans. Her showing has propelled the true freshman to a No. 21 individual ranking according to the Stride Report.

For her efforts, the Skyhawks finished in eighth place in the field of 33 programs. Ten of the programs on the women's side were nationally ranked, and Fort Lewis finished ahead of the 23rd, 26th, and 29th-ranked teams in NCAA Division II.
