Women’s cross country takes on national field in Wisconsin

DURANGO, Colo. – The No. 22-ranked Fort Lewis College women's cross country team will travel 1,418 miles to Kenosha, Wisconsin to compete in the 2025 NCAA DII Cross Country National Championships on Saturday.

The Field
Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Ten additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process.

From the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, seven teams on the women's side were selected to compete at nationals. No. 2 Adams State, No. 3 Mines, No. 4 UCCS, No. 5 Western Colorado, No. 17 CSU Pueblo, No. 20 Colorado Mesa, and No. 22 Fort Lewis will race on Saturday to represent the league.

Athletes from member institutions will earn All-American recognition by finishing among the top 40 athletes in their gender's respective races at the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. Last season, Hartwell and Lina Weigang earned First Team All-American honors. In 2023, senior Katie Heck earned First Team All-American honors with a 26th-place finish--she was the first Fort Lewis College All-American in any sport since 2017.

About the Course
The Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course is a renowned course that features rolling hills and a wooded route between Kenosha and Racine, Wisconsin. It is often featured in championship races, including the 2022 NCAA DII Regionals. Over 700 runners can safely race on the course with the record number of 624 athletes racing in a 5k at one point.
