Women's cross country places 21st at NCAA Championships, Hartwell finishes fourth

KENOSHA, Wisc. – Led by an All-American finish from senior Hannah Hartwell, the No. 22 Fort Lewis College women's cross country team placed 21st at the 2025 NCAA DII National Championships.

Hartwell placed fourth after gritting out the 6k race. She found herself in sixth place at the 4.8k split and went on the chip away at two spots to cross the finish line in fourth place with a time of 20:22.2. Her finish marks the highest finish for an individual in program history and gives her back-to-back All-American honors in just two seasons with Fort Lewis.

Freshman Carysa Marquez backed her up with a 72nd place finish. Marquez held steady at the 3k split and then moved up 12 spots before ultimately finishing in 72nd place at 21:32.6. Senior Alliyah Molina followed with a 115th place spot. Molina opened the race in 189th place and moved up 37 spots before the 3k split. Her final 3k saw the senior knock off 27 more runners for her 22:01.2 time.

The scoring five was rounded out by seniors Marisol Castilleja (201st) and Althea Griffith (216th). Castilleja moved up four spots in the final kilometer to finish at 22:53.3, and Griffith passed 27 runners throughout the race with her time of 23:03.3. Junior Madelaine Jellison (231st, 23:22.9) and freshman Madison Graffius (239th, 23:32.1) rounded out the seven runners for the Skyhawks.

The team title went to Grand Valley State with 65 points, coming in ahead of Colorado School of Mines with 69 points. Wingate followed in third, and Adams State (4th), Western Colorado (5th), and UCCS (6th) rounded out the top-six. Tristian Spence of Adams State ran away with the individual title by over six seconds with her time of 20:11.0.
