Women's soccer returns to Dirks for home finale

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College women's soccer team will be home for its final matches on Dirks Field this week, taking on Colorado Christian University on Thursday and MSU Denver to close it out on Sunday.

Last Time Out
The Skyhawks went 1-1 last week with a win over Black Hills State and a loss to Regis University. In the win over the Yellow Jackets, the Skyhawks had goals from sophomore Rozlin Gomez, sophomore Josie Coulter, and senior Elizabeth David. Senior McKenna Ford and junior Danielle Gonzales each earned assists. Fort Lewis now has goals from 15 different players as well as eight players with at least one assist. Seniors Katlyn Rosenbaum and Riley Bravin combined for their seventh shutout of the year.

On Sunday, Fort Lewis dropped a narrow 2-1 match to Regis University in Denver. Ford scored just 41 seconds into the match on an assist from Gomez, but the Rangers earned two quick goals to begin the second half. Freshman Ann Spence led the team with four shots and three shots on goal, followed by junior Sabrina Reyes and senior Aubrey Swindle who each recorded three shots.

Scouting Colorado Christian
The Cougars are 3-7-4 overall and 1-7-2 in conference play, ranking 11th heading into the final regular season matches of the year. Colorado Christian played just one match last week, a 1-0 win over New Mexico Highlands at home. The Cougars are averaging .71 goals per game while holding their opponents to .91 goals per game. Capri Dewing leads the team with two goals and three assists, followed by five players with one goal. Two goalkeepers have seen significant time this season, led by Alana Lopp who has started in nine matches. Lopp owns 49 saves and a .89 goals-against average.

Fort Lewis is 28-15-3 all-time against Colorado Christian with a 14-5-2 record at home. In last year's 3-1 home win, the Skyhawks earned goals from Madyson Barela, Hannah Paschke, and Swindle. Rosenbaum earned the win with four saves in 90 minutes of action.

Scouting MSU Denver
The Roadrunners are 6-5-4 overall and 5-3-1 in the league to rank fifth heading into the final regular season matches of the year. MSU Denver played just one match last week, a 3-0 win over Adams State at home. The Roadrunners average 1.33 goals per game and hold their opponents to 1.07 goals per game. The duo of Tessa Killmon and Monica Yoder each had four games on the year. Kailey Maness leads all players with six assists. Kylie Bach has started all 14 matches at goalkeeper, recording 74 saves for a 1.19 goals-against average.

Fort Lewis is 15-29-7 all-time against MSU Denver. Last season, the Skyhawks picked up a key 1-0 win over the Roadrunners at home. Barela scored the game winner for Fort Lewis on a penalty kick.

Around the RMAC
In last week's version of the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, the league was represented by three RMAC programs.  Colorado Mesa which sits at No. 5 with a 9-0-1 record. Mines dropped two spots to No. 18 following a 1-0-1 weekend at home. In the South Central Region, Colorado Mesa and Mines are first and third, respectively, followed by UCCS (4th), Regis (5th), MSU Denver (7th), and Fort Lewis (10th).

Colorado School of Mines leads the conference in goals per game (2.875) while Colorado Mesa paces the conference in goals allowed per game (.43). Fort Lewis ranks fifth in goals allowed per game (.80). Regis' Natalie Bunch leads the conference with 10 goals per game. Swindle is tied for second in the league with three game-winning goals.

Inside the Numbers
After Friday's road win, Fort Lewis has now surpassed its win total from the 2022 season with three regular season matches remaining. The team is averaging 1.53 goals per game compared to a mark of less than one goal per game last season and has surpassed its goals total from last season (16) with 23 on the year. The Skyhawks are also holding their opponents to an impressive average of .80 goals per game. The Skyhawks have a balanced attack with 15 players credited with goals, led by three goals from Meraz-Fishbein and Swindle. Haley Stafford, Elizabeth David, and Swindle lead the team with three assists each, followed by Danielle Gonzales and Sabrina Reyes who have a pair. Katlyn Rosenbaum and Riley Bravin have split time at goalkeeper and combine for a .80 goals-against average. Bravin has faced 86 shots and owns a 5-2-3 record.

The regular season will come to a close on Wednesday, November 1 with a road match against Western Colorado University.

Fort Lewis is 8-2-3 all-time against Western Colorado, salvaging a tie in last year's meeting thanks to a goal from Ford in the 81st minute.
