No. 12 Skyhawks set for rematch with Mountain Lions for Sunday’s RMAC Tournament Semifinal

DURANGO, Colo. – Following a bye through the quarterfinal round thanks to capturing the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season title and the top overall seed, the Fort Lewis men's soccer team returns to the pitch this Sunday, Nov. 5, as the top-ranked Skyhawks host the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (10-4-5) for an RMAC Semifinal match on Dirks Field at 5:00 p.m.
 
Sunday's match has been tabbed as 'Whiteout' and Fort Lewis is excited to offer free whiteout-edition t-shirts to the first 250 Skyhawks fans.  
 
Tickets for Sunday's match must be purchased through the RMAC Ticketing site. Members of the Skyhawks Club may still use their VIP Passes to enjoy the hospitality section, however, they must still purchase a ticket through the RMAC to enter the event. General admission is $15.00 while seniors (65+) and children (10 and under) are $10.00.
 
The match will be streamed pay-per-view on the RMAC Network. John Mahoney and Brian Frederick have the call. New this season, the RMAC has implemented a subscription model for all 2023-24 RMAC Championship broadcasts on the conference network. Fans will be able to purchase day passes for each day of tournament play, priced at $9.95 per day. Last Time Out
Fort Lewis closed out its regular season with an electric 2-2 draw at Westminster University followed by a statement 3-0 shutout at 17th-ranked Colorado Mesa University. Tomas Duenes and Kaden Schufft combined for two goals against the Griffins in the 55th and 89th minutes to stun the home team and put FLC in contention for the regular season title. In the following match, Anton Hjalmarsson went off for two goals while Adnan Elaqad added another to shock the Mavericks and capture the top overall seed for the tournament. Additionally, Hjalmarsson and Elaqad were named the RMAC's final Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
 
Final Regular Season Awards
The Skyhawks earned a plethora of postseason regalia headlined by David Oberholtzer earning RMAC Coach of the Year and Hjalmarsson being named both the Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. Gabriel Legendre and Loic Jean-Baptiste join Hjalmarsson with First-Team All-RMAC honors while Duenes and Schufft each earned Second-Team All-RMAC nods.
 
Scouting the Mountain Lions
UCCS finished the regular season with a 9-4-5 overall record and downed Westminster University 2-1 in the RMAC Tournament Quarterfinal on Thursday night thanks to a pair of second-half goals. The Mountain Lions closed out the regular season with a three-game winning streak on the back of two shutouts while out-scoring opponents 5-2. UCCS came to Durango back on Oct. 12 and handed Fort Lewis a 3-2 loss while rifling off 28 total shots and placing 11 on goal.
 
The Mountain Lions – who averaged 1.72 goals and 15.8 shots per game – are guided by Alex Andersson, a First-Team All-RMAC selection, and his eight goals and two assists in the year. Kolby Raineri and Peter Chang have added another five goals each while 10 other Mountain Lions have recorded at least one goal. Soren Russell stands between FLC and the UCCS net with 1.09 goals against average and a 77.2 save percentage against 186 shots faced.
 
Postseason Picture
Win-and-advance is the postseason motto, and a win Sunday would mean Fort Lewis hosts the RMAC Tournament Championship on Friday, Nov. 10, at 5:00 p.m. on Dirks Field against the winner of Sunday's second semifinal match featuring second-seeded Colorado Mesa University and the winner of tonight's match between sixth-seeded Metropolitan State University of Denver at third-seeded Colorado State University Pueblo.

Beyond the RMAC lies the NCAA National Tournament. The NCAA Tournament is divided into four super regions, each taking the top ten teams. FLC resides in Super Region 4 competing against the best from the South-Central and West Regions with four automatic bids for winners of the RMAC, LSC, CCCAA, and GNAC Tournaments. In this week's latest regional rankings on ncaa.com, FLC was ranked ninth in the super region.
