COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Following a historic 2023 season that saw a berth in the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament and a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season Championship, four Skyhawks from the Fort Lewis men's soccer team have been recognized by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association as All-South Central Region talents, the organization announced Tuesday morning.

Anton Hjalmarsson, the RMAC Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, alongside Loic Jean-Baptiste, a fellow First-Team All-RMAC honoree, have both earned First-Team All-Region honors. It is the first regional honor of Hjalmarsson's career and the second for Jean-Baptiste. Gabriel Legendre and Kaden Schufft each earned their first regional accolades as Second-Team selections.

Athletic communication professionals from the NCAA Division II South Central Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA all-region teams. First-team honorees are eligible for All-American nomination to be voted on at a later date.

Hjalmarsson adds another award to his impressive campaign as only one of two freshmen in the South-Central region to earn regional honors (Ellis Jones, Oklahoma Christian University). The Smålandsstenar, Sweden, native added three more assists and one goal to his resume through the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament and currently ranks third in total goals (11) and second in total assists (11) among the South-Central region. In addition, Hjalmarsson is tied for the ninth-most total points (33), 33rd-most goals scored, and 11th-most assists across Division II.

Jean-Baptiste returns to the All-Region ranks for the second time in his career after earning a Second-Team bid back in 2019 as a sophomore. After transitioning to a midfield position this season, Jean-Baptiste remained an integral part of Fort Lewis' front line adding the fifth-most goals (4) and sixth-most assists (3) on the roster. Jean-Baptiste was also one of four Skyhawks to be named to the RMAC All-Tournament Team.

Legendre, a native of Rio Rancho, N.M., captures his Second-Team honors after netting the game-winning goal in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament – Fort Lewis' first tournament win since 2011 – and matching Hjalmarsson with 11 goals scored this season. Legendre joins his fellow Skyhawk in a tie for the third-most goals in the South-Central region and 33rd-most in Division II. Legendre, a two-time First-Team Academic All-RMAC honoree, also added one assist on the year and currently ranks 10th all-time in career goals scored at Fort Lewis with 26.

Schufft, a Second-Team selection, is one of five RMAC players to earn a regional nod as a defender. Totaling the fourth-most minutes (1,698) on the pitch by a Skyhawk, Schufft scored a pair of goals and added a pair of assists from the back line. Earlier this season, Schufft was recognized with Second-Team All-RMAC and RMAC All-Tournament Team selections.

Midwestern State University's Mere Escobar, the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Forward of the Year, has been named the South-Central Region's Player of the Year. Escobar registered 17 goals and 13 assists so far through his junior campaign with the Mustangs.
