Nine student-athletes have been named to the RMAC Academic Honor Roll.

Football lands nine on RMAC Academic Honor Roll

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College football team has placed nine student-athletes on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Academic Honor Roll list, the league announced on Wednesday.
 
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (GPA) for honor roll honors and a 3.50 cumulative GPA for First-Team consideration. In addition, the student-athlete must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters. First Team All-Academic members were voted on by the conference's sports information directors for meeting those criteria as well as demonstrating outstanding performance on the field.
 
Leading the Skyhawks is senior Tristen Williams who earned his third Academic Honor Roll award. A senior and native of New Town, N.D., Williams played in ten games for the Skyhawks and racked up 23 total tackles (18 solo, five assisted) including 2.5 tackles for a combined nine yards of loss, one sack for three yards, and two pass breakups. Off the field, Williams focuses his studies on Exercise Physiology where he boasts a 3.692 Grade Point Average (GPA).
 
Christopher Thomas Jr., Elijah Portela, Ayden Madrid, Brayden Miller, Carter Cameron, Christopher Ponce, Collin Doucette, and Braden Wingle have all earned their first Academic Honor Roll recognition.
 
Headlining the group is Wingle, Fort Lewis' leading quarterback who will graduate this spring after throwing for 2,276 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. Wingle finishes his career among the Skyhawks record books including first in average yards per pass (9.7), second in career completion percentage (59.5 percent), sixth in career completions (384), and seventh in career passing attempts (645), and eighth in career passing yards (3,724). In the classroom, Wingle has a 3.469 GPA in Sociology and Human Services.
 
Thomas Jr., a native of Glendale, Ariz., picks up his honor after leading all receivers with four touchdowns and racking up the second-most yards (392) on the roster in 32 receptions. In addition, Thomas Jr. posted two games this season with 100+ receiving yards. When not on the gridiron, Thomas Jr. maintains his 3.777 GPA while studying Marketing.
 
From Lexington, Ky., hails Miller, a three-year veteran for the Skyhawks. One of Fort Lewis' graduating seniors, Miller recently made the switch from quarterback to tight end before assisting with play calling throughout the season. In the classroom, Miller has excelled in Business Administration where he will graduate with a 3.340 GPA.
 
Cameron has been known as a staple on the defensive side of the ball and one of Fort Lewis' leaders at the linebacker position. Cameron led FLC with 5.5 tackles for a combined 14 yards of loss with one fumble recovery while also racking up the sixth-most tackles with 32 (19 solo, 13 assisted). Off the field, Cameron has chosen to study Engineering where he owns a 3.367 GPA.
 
Madrid, the Skyhawks fullback from Bernalillo, N.M., earns his honor after competing in nine games for FLC and making five catches out of the backfield for 19 total yards. In the classroom, Madrid has chosen to study Environmental Conservation & Management where he owns a 3.339 GPA.
 
Another staple from the Fort Lewis linebacker room and native of Upland, Calif., is Ponce. While matching Cameron with 32 total tackles (15 solo, 17 assisted) on the season, Ponce also recorded 2.5 tackles for 15 yards of loss including one sack for a loss of nine yards. In addition, Ponce also forced one quarterback hurry. Off the field, Ponce has a 3.392 GPA studying Business administration.
 
Portela, a Peoria, Ariz., native, made his career debut with the Skyhawks this season after utilizing a redshirt in 2022. Studying Exercise Health & Promotion, the five-foot-eleven safety owns a 3.600 GPA.
 
Doucette also made his appearance for Fort Lewis this season appearing in three games and recording one tackle. A native of Flagstaff, Ariz., Doucette has focused his studies on Business Administration and owns a 3.481 GPA.


Colorado School of Mines' John Matocha and Nolan Reeve were named the league's offensive and defensive Academic Players of the Year.
