Skyhawks challenge Mavericks in RMAC opener

DURANGO, Colo. – After snowstorms moved the series back one day, the Fort Lewis College softball team (2-5) is slated to take on Colorado Mesa University (2-6) in a four-game series to open both team's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference campaigns on Sunday and Monday.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend the Skyhawks took part in the West Texas A&M Invitational Tournament down in Canyon, Texas. Fort Lewis took on Lone Star Conference members West Texas A&M University and Eastern New Mexico University, finishing the weekend 0-3. Sloan Shotton and Alex Tenorio provided the only three-hit weekends for Fort Lewis while accounting for two of the Skyhawks' six total runs. Caydee Farnworth led FLC with 11.1 innings pitched in the circle, allowing sixteen hits and ten earned runs while striking out five.
 
SCOUTING THE MAVERICKS
Last year, the Mavericks swept Fort Lewis across the season, winning three of its four conference matchups by the run rule and downing FLC 9-1 in the RMAC Tournament.     

Colorado Mesa enters the weekend 2-6 overall after joining the Skyhawks at the West Texas A&M Invitational Tournament last weekend. Riding a six-game losing streak, the Mavericks fell twice to West Texas A&M 2-1 and 3-11 (5 Innings) while also falling to Eastern New Mexico 10-9.

CMU's only wins of the season came at the Concordia Kickoff Classic. The Mavs picked up back-to-back wins over California State University Monterey Bay and California State University East Bay by scores of 2-1 and 4-3 respectively. 
 
Hannah Sattler has led the Mavs in the circle this season, owning a 1-2 record through 28.1 innings pitched including three complete games. The five-foot-eight junior holds a 2.96 earned run average on 28 hits, 12 earned runs, three walks, and eleven strikeouts. As a unit, the Mavs hold a 4.39 earned run average while holding opponents to a .270 batting average.
 
At the plate stands the Mavs leading offensive threat in Rylee Crouch. Crouch, a sophomore from Brighton, Colorado, leads the Mavs with a .435 batting average and 1.087 slugging percentage. The outfielder owns ten hits with one double, one triple, and four home runs to complement nine runs batted in.
 
NEXT UP
Next weekend the Skyhawks are back at home to host Colorado School of Mines for a four-game RMAC series. The Orediggers and Skyhawks will face off on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26. Start times are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
